In case it hasn't been clear over the past two years, Angel Reese isn't interested in just being a productive WNBA player. She wants to be one of the most influential figures in the history of women's basketball.
When it comes to producing on the hardwood, Reese has lived up to the hype since being drafted by the Chicago Sky in 2024. She averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game as a rookie, earning All-Star honors in the process. The LSU product has been even better this year, averaging 14.2 points and 12.6 rebounds per contest. She has also improved her field goal percentage (44%).
Off the court, Reese has been equally successful. She signed a multi-year contract extension with Reebok after her rookie season. Her signature sneakers, the Reebok Angel Reese 1, will be available in the “Diamond Dust” colorway on Sept. 18.
“September 18th. AR1’s coming to a store near YOU,” Reese wrote on X.
Although it might seem like an ambitious goal, Reese wants to make her Reebok sneakers so popular that everyone is wearing them.
"Reebok is back! We’re bringing back that old-school look, the old-school vibes. People are going to be wearing Reebok everywhere, just like how they wear Jordans everywhere," Reese said. "I want people to wear the Angel Reese 1s everywhere and just to be a household name, to have no limits on what I can do and what I can accomplish."
The Jordan Brand is reportedly worth around $7 billion. Reebok, on the other hand, was sold in 2022 for $2.5 billion.
Despite how popular Reese has become, it'll be incredibly tough for her to get Reebok on Jordan's level.
The Jordan Brand is beloved in large part because of what it represents. Michael Jordan is widely regarded as the greatest basketball player of all-time. Fans wanted to be "like Mike" when they put on a pair of his sneakers.
While Reese has most likely inspired young basketball fans since going pro in 2024, she simply doesn't have Jordan's impact.
