Seattle Storm guard Skylar Diggins officially filed for divorce earlier this year from her husband, Daniel Smith, which marks the end of their marriage after several years together.
The news was first reported by TMZ Sports on Thursday evening, just days after Diggins requested reporters to drop the “Smith” from her last name and address her as "Skylar Diggins" only at a press conference on Tuesday.
The announcement also comes three days before the Storm’s first preseason game against the Connecticut Sun, set for Sunday at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. While the couple largely kept their relationship private, there is a lot of speculation about their split.

The former couple met at the University of Notre Dame, where Diggins played basketball and Smith was a football player. They started dating around 2014 and got engaged in June 2016. The couple married in April 2017 and share two young children together. The 34-year-old athlete filed the divorce documents on March 26, which stated that she initially separated from Smith in November 2024.
Also in the documents, she requested the split because the "marriage is irretrievably broken." Those are all the details TMZ Sports provided.
Drafted third overall in 2013 by the Tulsa Shock, Diggins has also played for the Dallas Wings and Phoenix Mercury. She signed a two-year contract with the Seattle Storm in February 2024. In recognition of her impressive performance after missing the 2023 season due to the birth of her second child, she was named the 2024 WNBA AP Comeback Player of the Year.
"My focus is on being a great teammate and adding value to this team on and off the floor," Diggins said. "And as always, being a good mom to my two babies."
