WNBA Team Dealing With Troubling Development Before Indiana Fever Game

The Indiana Fever are heading into a big game on Friday as they go on the road to battle the Los Angeles Sparks at Crypto.com Arena.

The Fever are coming off a big win against the Seattle Storm on Tuesday, currently occupying the No. 6 spot in the WNBA standings with a 20-18 record.

The Sparks, on the other hand, suffered a 92-84 loss to the Phoenix Mercury in their last game. They currently have a 17-19 record and are 1.5 games behind the Storm for the eighth and final playoff spot in the league.

Sparks Dealt Troubling Blow Before Fever Game

Unfortunately for L.A., they could be forced to face the Fever without one of their best players. Second-year forward Rickea Jackson was listed as questionable to play due to a right lower leg injury.

Jackson, who has produced averages of 14.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.7 triples in 31.4 minutes per game this season, suffered the leg injury on Tuesday against the Mercury. She left the game in the third quarter and had to be checked in the locker room.

Jackson, however, was able to return at the mid-way point of the final quarter. She played through the injury to finish with 21 points, three rebounds, an assist, a steal, one block and four triples in the loss.

At this point, it appears that Jackson is going to be a game-time call, with the Sparks potentially making their final decision on the 6-foot-2 forward closer to tip-off.

Simply put, the Sparks cannot afford to lose Jackson right now, considering how tight the playoff race is.

Fever Get Good News for Sparks Game

The Fever are still going to be extremely shorthanded against the Sparks on Friday. Caitlin Clark still has no timetable for her return and is expected to miss her 17th straight game due to a lingering groin injury.

Sophie Cunningham, Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson are all on the shelf as well with season-ending injuries.

Indiana got some good news, though, in the form of Chloe Bibby, who had missed three consecutive games due to a knee issue. According to Fever reporter Chloe Peterson, Bibby was not listed on the injury report, which means that she should be good to go for the Sparks game.

Bibby, who the Fever signed as a mid-season recruit amid their injury crisis, is no star. In nine appearances this season, the 6-foot-2 forward has averaged 3.9 points and 1.2 rebounds in 9.8 minutes off the bench. However, with their roster decimated by injuries, the Fever can use all the help they can get at this point.
