WNBA Team Dealt Unfortunate News on Thursday

The Minnesota Lynx continue to be haunted by injuries. Napheesa Collier is already dealing with surgeries on both her knees, and her availability for the start of the 2026 WNBA season in May is uncertain. Now, teammate Kayla McBride has also suffered an injury.

Unlike last year, McBride is not participating in the 3x3 league Unrivaled. She opted to play for Turkish basketball powerhouse Fenerbahçe S.K. However, her journey for this season has come to a premature end.

Kayla McBride Faces a Huge Setback

McBride had played in two games for Fenerbahçe this season before her injury, averaging 11.5 points per game. As per the club’s official update, McBride got injured during a training session just before her team’s away game against Italian club Umana Reyzer Venia. The injury was diagnosed as a tear in the quadriceps muscle.

McBride will be required to undergo surgery to fix the tear, meaning the possibility of a long-term recovery like Collier is facing.

Kayla McBride is a Vital Player for the Lynx

McBride is one of the best long-range shooters in women’s hoops right now. She made 2.6 triples per game for the Lynx during the 2025 season and averaged 14.2 points per game.

Then she elevated her game to average 20 points in six postseason games, nailing 3.3 triples per game. It will be a big blow to the Lynx if both Collier and McBride miss the early portion of the 2026 WNBA season.
