We're two months away from the start of the 2025 WNBA season and the much-anticipated return of the Indiana Fever with superstar Caitlin Clark. As with last year, the added hype is leading to venue changes to meet the demand.
On Wednesday, the Fever announced that their first road game of the 2025 season - a May 22 tilt with the Atlanta Dream - is being moved from The Gateway Center Arena in College Park, Georgia to State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The change adds an additional 13,000 seats that the two teams can try to fill.
"The Atlanta Dream will host their season opener on May 22 against the Indiana Fever at State Farm Arena. The Dream enter the season coming off back-to-back playoff appearances and an offseason that included monumental free agency acquisitions and the hiring of one of the winningest coaches in women’s basketball history. The organization aims to build off last year’s 20 consecutive home sellouts and record-breaking season-ticket growth, while elevating the profile of women’s sports in the Southeast’s largest market," the Dream said in a statement announcing the change.
"The Indiana Fever’s first road game of the 2025 season, a May 22 trip to the Atlanta Dream, has been moved to State Farm Arena it was announced today. The game was previously set to be played at The Gateway Center Arena @ College Park," the Fever said. "Tip off will remain set for 7:30 p.m. ET."

This is hardly the first time that a WNBA team had to change venues for a game featuring the Fever. Since the end of February the Fever have seen road games against both the Washington Mystics and the Chicago Sky move to arenas with double the capacity of their usual stomping grounds.
When Caitlin Clark is on the court, the fans want to see her.
The 2024 season saw Clark burst onto the scene and emerge as one of the best and most popular players in the sport. She has been ratings gold for a league that for years has struggled to fill seats.
