The Atlanta Dream are ready to have a strong season after making a few changes to the team during the offseason. One of the first things they did was hire head coach Karl Smesko to lead the team, as they wanted a new voice in the locker room. In free agency, they went out and signed Brittney Griner, who will be a big help in the paint and also on the perimeter, which is how Smesko's offense is ran.
On paper, the Dream have a solid roster, and with players such as Rhyne Howard, Allisha Gray, and Jordin Canada returning, this can be a team that reaches the playoffs once again.
The Dream were able to see how their new roster will work together in their first preseason game on Wednesday against the Washington Mystics. Unfortunately, a minute within the game, Canada went down went a leg injury and was ruled out for the rest of the contest. On Friday, the team shared an update on Canada's injury.
"Following Wednesday’s game against the Washington Mystics, Atlanta Dream guard Jordin Canada was evaluated by Emory Sports Medicine professionals. Canada has been diagnosed with a right knee injury and will be re-evaluated in two weeks," the Dream wrote in a statement.
Canada dealt with an injury to start the season for the Dream last year, and her presence was missed. This time around, the Dream have a few players on the roster that can fill in for her while she's sidelined, and the hope is that she can recover as soon as possible and get back on the floor.
