The Chicago Sky’s 2025 WNBA season is off to a historically rough start—and Angel Reese is feeling the heat.
Following Thursday night’s 99-74 blowout loss to the reigning champion New York Liberty, the Sky have now recorded a -60 point differential through their first two games—the worst start in WNBA history
The slide began in their season opener, when the Sky were routed by Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, 93-58. In that game, Reese went 5-for-14 from the field and was visibly outplayed in the highly anticipated rookie showdown.
Against the Liberty, things briefly looked promising in the first quarter, with Chicago trailing by just five points after 10 minutes. But the wheels came off in the second, where New York exploded for a 53-32 halftime lead. From there, it was cruise control for the champs, handing the Sky their second consecutive lopsided defeat.
Angel Reese, the former LSU standout, went 0-for-8 from the floor and managed just two points on free throws. On the bright side, she did grab 12 rebounds—eight of which came on the offensive end. But her 5-for-22 shooting clip and 10 turnovers across two games have raised red flags for Chicago’s offense.
Despite the rocky start, Angel Reese isn’t hanging her head. Speaking after the loss to the Liberty, she addressed her shooting woes and said she’s focused on moving forward.
“[I’m] just staying poised and looking for the next shot,” she said.
Her coach, Tyler Marsh, remains in her corner. Speaking to the Chicago Sun-Times, Marsh emphasized his faith in Reese and the team’s offensive system.
“Some of [her shots] were rushed. That was really it,” Marsh said. “Angel knows that we have confidence in her… It’s not going to be often that we have a ton of misses like this.”
With a two-game road trip ahead, starting Sunday against the LA Sparks, Reese will have a golden opportunity to silence her doubters and help the Sky notch their first win of the season.
The road won’t be easy—but for Reese and the Sky, a breakout performance may be just around the corner.
