Sophie Cunningham didn’t just help the Indiana Fever secure a win over the Connecticut Sun on June 17—she may have secured her next big endorsement bag, too.
Known for being one of Caitlin Clark’s fiercest protectors on the court, Cunningham leaned into that “enforcer” role and landed a brand-new deal with none other than Ring, the billion-dollar home security company.
She broke the news herself on Sunday with a slick Instagram ad, showing off her newest partnership with the caption:
“On the court, I protect my team. At home, @ring protects me.
#ad”
In the video, Cunningham kept it on-brand:
“In light of recent events, you guys know how serious I am about protecting my girls on the court. But what’s protecting my home court? AKA, my actual home? The obvious choice is Ring.”
That “recent event” she’s referring to? A full-blown WNBA scuffle during their matchup against the Sun. In the fourth quarter, Cunningham dragged Connecticut’s Jacy Sheldon to the ground, widely seen as payback for Sheldon’s earlier foul on Clark in the third. The moment turned Cunningham into an overnight fan favorite in Indiana and got her dubbed as “The Enforcer” by Fever fans online.
And while Sophie’s still chasing a WNBA championship ring, it’s safe to say she just locked down a different kind of Ring.
After Sophie Cunningham’s hard foul on Sheldon, a petition started circulating online calling for Sophie Cunningham to be banned from the league. But not everyone’s buying into the outrage, including Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon.
In a chat with The Mirror US, Hammon came to Cunningham’s defense and also weighed in on the rising physicality in the league, especially when it comes to defending Caitlin Clark.
“She’s a beast… and she’s just going to continue to get better,” Hammon said of Clark. “But she’s a player who you have to be physical with. If you just follow her around, she’s going to cook you for dinner.”
When asked about Cunningham, Hammon was blunt:
“I think teammates should step in and defend Caitlin.”
Looks like Sophie did just that—and picked up a Ring along the way.
