During the July 28, 2025, edition of WWE Raw, live from Detroit, fans were shocked to see the company reveal that there is a third El Grande Americano. The masked luchador made a surprise return, but it wasn't the same person who had been playing the other two.

As most fans know by now, the first El Grande Americano was obviously Chad Gable. He even confirmed as much during a recent interview while out of action due to an injury. He mentioned how happy he was to finally have a singles match at WrestleMania (which he didn't, but El Grande Americano did).
Next up was Ludwig Kaiser, who stepped in to play the role when Gable got hurt. Despite his past as a technical heel with a pompous gimmick, he embraced the role. Kaiser started delivering promos in Spanish. He showed up earlier in the match on Monday between the LWO and Judgment Day. That said, it wasn't Kaiser who returned for the match finish.
A third El Grande Americano showed up.
Speculation had swirled on social media as to who is playing the role of the third El Grande Americano. Many believe it's none other than Pete Dunne—formerly also known as Butch. While some praised the move as classic WWE misdirection, others voiced disappointment.
“PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME THAT’S PETE DUNNE,” one fan posted. Others criticized the creative choice, suggesting that instead of reuniting Dunne with Tyler Bate in the long-awaited New Catch Republic team, WWE may be wasting his potential in a comedic role. Many of the same people said that about Kaiser going under the mask.
WWE’s decision to bring out more and more El Grande Americanos is leaving fans confused about where this is all going. It feels like a major pivot, one that has veered away from this being something that would culminate in a fairly obvious reveal of Chad Gable. Whether this was a one-time stunt or the beginning of a new arc for the gimmick and Dunne, fans will be watching closely.
Is this a good thing? Or, is WWE giving fans a modern-day version of Doink the Clown?
