WWE SmackDown star Chelsea Green's world title credentials have been a hot topic of conversation in the pro wrestling world as of late. The former Women's United States Champion has yet to enter the world title picture in her WWE career, and that's how producer Michael Hayes thinks it should stay.

Hayes controversially claimed that Green wasn't built to be a Tiffany Stratton or Charlotte Flair and that her job is to help "make those people." She took offense to this and admitted it hurt to hear those comments made publicly after they aired on WWE's Unreal Netflix docu-series.

WWE Legend: Chelsea Green 'Is a Main Eventer'

Many past and present WWE stars have shared their thoughts on Green and whether she will become a future world champion. The latest is WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi, who insists she has the tools to claim the biggest title in women's wrestling.

Rikishi gave an interesting analysis of Green and suggested how WWE should plan her route to the main event scene. He said on his Off The Top Rope podcast:

"I feel 100% that Chelsea Green is a main eventer. It’s not that Chelsea can’t do the work. It’s not that Chelsea is not a prime talent performer. But the thing is how you’re writing stuff for this girl. Give Chelsea a fair opportunity. Build Chelsea up as much as you would give a Charlotte Flair an opportunity. Give Chelsea that big, crazy entrance. I mean, really put it all out for her and don’t worry about the work. Let her do that. She’s got that on point."

Green is extremely popular with fans despite playing a villainous role and she was even branded one of the most entertaining acts in WWE by Shawn Michaels last year. Rikishi continued by explaining why WWE should protect her:

"My thing is, with good talent, you only get good talent once in a while. And when you finally find that good talent, such as a Chelsea Green, you want to make sure you protect her. If you don’t have anything for her, put her on the shelf for a second, right? Let it marinate with whatever they’re doing with the next person."

Green returned to WWE at the Royal Rumble in January 2023 and took on a new character, which became a massive hit. She is constantly calling out management while hiding behind her stable, The Green Regime, when dominant opponents take issue with her.

Chelsea Green Injury Update

A world title won't come anytime soon for Green, given she is currently out of action due to injury. She confirmed on social media that she had broken her ankle, and she appeared on SmackDown last Friday wearing an ankle brace.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the injury occurred on SmackDown earlier this month when she faced Stratton and Lash Legend in a triple threat match. Despite picking up the injury, she wrestled for AAA when she defended the AAA Mixed Tag Team Championships with Ethan Page against Mr Iguana and Lola Vice.

Green and Page lost that match, but she was told beforehand that her injury wasn't too serious and that she wouldn't need long to recover. That was until further tests revealed she cracked and chipped the boner of her ankle.

This could put the 34-year-old on the shelf for a significant period, and her chances of competing on the WrestleMania 42 card look extremely slim. But her appearance on SmackDown last week suggests she will continue to be used on-screen while recovering.
