There was a lot of hype around who the Devil was heading into AEW Worlds End PPV on Saturday night, December 30th. After the main event was over, where Samoa Joe defeated MJF to be crowned the AEW World Champion, Adam Cole revealed himself to be the Devil.

Cole prayed on the friendship he made with MJF and that played into the storyline of this match. MJF invited Adam Cole to ringside for this match. Once the match was over, the Devil’s henchmen surrounded the ring. MJF held back Adam Cole with a crutch in hand. The lights went out and when the lights came back on the henchmen surrounded Adam Cole, who was sitting on a chair.

One by one, the henchmen revealed themselves to be Roderick Strong, Matt Taven, Mike Bennett, and Wardlow. MJF was shocked to see his friend be the one behind the Devil’s mask. Soon after, the new faction in AEW took out the former champion, leaving him in the ring battered and wounded as the show went off the air.

Throughout this whole storyline, there were little teases about who the Devil was going to be. But once Samoa Joe turned on MJF on go-home Dynamite for Worlds End, everyone knew it had to be Adam Cole. And sometimes, the best reveals or storylines are the simplest ones.

You could tell early on it could have been Adam Cole, but you were not sure. AEW knew how to blur the lines of who it could be. However, as we got closer to the PPV, the signs were there it was Cole. And once Cole came down to ringside, you knew something was going to happen involving MJF and Adam Cole.

This storyline dates back to their first match for the AEW World Championship, which ended in a draw. Cole and MJF teamed up as partners in the Blind Eliminator Tag Team tournament. They got all the way to the finals and lost. There were teases along the way of one of these guys turning heel. Both are good heels, but Cole is a better he than a babyface.

These were targeted attacks by the Devil and his goons, taking out everyone MJF had a storyline with, from Jay White to the Acclaimed to Samoa Joe to Hangman Page and others along the way. Even MJF got laid out by the Devils goons. Though we did not see that take place. That was the swerve. Even the promos by Strong, the Kingdom, and even Wardlow dropped hints about the Devil and ruining MJF’s life.

Those promos were done in such a way to throw people off and make people guess on who the person was behind the Devil’s mask. AEW President Tony Khan said the reveal was going to happen at Worlds End. There was speculation it could have been Dr. Britt Bake D.M.D, Jack Perry, Wardlow, someone outside the company, and Cole himself.

In the end it was Adam Cole. He is the ultimate master mind even though he is out injured. Remember, even though Cole was MJF’s friend, he was trying to beat him for the title and did not. In the first match with Samoa Joe, Cole ran down to help his friend and almost cost him the match, so the signs were there. But MJF was blinded by friendship.

In the end, something that MJF did not want to start with led to his downfall… A Friend.

It is why he is who he is and can’t trust anyone.

MJF will be off TV for a long time as Adam Cole and his group reign supreme on AEW Television.
