“It’s Christmas day, and that means AEW Christmas Collision!” said Scrooge to himself. “I haven’t missed it. AEW has done it all at the Hammerstein Ballroom. They can do anything they like. Of course, Tony Khan can.”
This Christmas Day, Tony Khan delivers a sack full of bangers for AEW fans as the Continental Classic groups stage concludes. Once again, it is already tight at the top of the Gold and Blue League. Depending on how events unfold on Dynamite 35th Street, it’s going to be a tense night of what-ifs and shifting momentum.
Every win matters. Every point could make a difference.
Even the most Grinch or Okada-like of wrestling fans surely will find something this evening to make their heart grow four times its size. Although speaking of Kazuchika Okada, a potential dream match with Konosuke Takeshita may surprisingly be delayed again.
There are so many potential stories to be told on this night. Classic rivalries revisited, new ones emerging and personal character arcs. So many possibilities! So many gifts!
Kevin Knight’s 2025 has been fantastic, but his Continental Classic run has been exceptional. Bangers but also upsets over Darby Allin and Kazuchika Okada have cemented Knight’s breakout year. Can the Jet upset the Bastard? PAC’s form has been phenomenal since his return to action. The Death Rider member wants to get himself to the semi-finals but will face a difficult challenge.
The reigning and defending AEW Continental Champion, Kazuchika Okada, faces a man he defended his championship against earlier this year. Speedball Mike Bailey, like his JetSpeed partner, scored an upset victory over Okada’s stablemate, Kyle Fletcher. Like Knight, Bailey could play spoiler.
Yet this isn’t the first Continental Classic where Okada has had to fight from behind. It would be bold of AEW to delay the teased blow-off match with Konosuke Takeshita. Although we’ve already been waiting over a year for a clash that was first teased over a year ago.
Finally, Jungle Jack Perry, who, alongside The Young Bucks, has recently had problems with The Don Callis Family. Taking on Kyle Fletcher, Perry again could play spoiler to the Protostar’s ambitions. Again, an incredible match on paper, it’s easy to imagine how both men will bite into this one.
Konosuke Takeshita takes on Mascara Dorada. Earlier this year, both men fought in a three-way with Okada for the Continental Championship. One-on-one, this clash of styles could be electric. Strength and power vs. aerial ingenuity. Dorada could follow in the steps of Kommander, who last year stopped Claudio Castagnoli from breaking out of the group stages.
Speaking of the Swiss Superman, he faces Roderick Strong. A historic rival, but also a man determined to taste victory in the Continental Classic, could disrupt this hope? Although what would it mean for the Death Riders if Castagnoli advanced alongside or instead of Jon Moxley?
Moxley faces a foil and a bitter recent rival in Orange Cassidy. Both men have bled for the AEW International and AEW World Championships. Cassidy has beaten Moxley before. As mentioned, the bigger story is how the result will impact Moxley’s leadership of the Death Riders.
