Although AEW Full Gear 2025 will be in the rear-view mirror, AEW Dynamite from The Pinnacle in Nashville will see the start of the 2025 Continental Classic! At the time of writing, no names or brackets have been found, but as details are drip-fed to us, check back for more information as we provide them once they come.
Let’s speculate on the opening round and what other post-Full Gear surprises we might get.
Twelve men will compete for the opportunity to hold the AEW Continental Championship. Or will the stakes be upped to include the AEW International Championship this year? Therefore, putting the whole Unified Championship on the line? It would not be the first time that multiple championships would be on the line.
The Current Continental Champion, Kazuchika Okada, started his reign after defeating triple champion Eddie Kingston. It was also where this long-term, multi-year story formed. The Rainmaker’s heel characterisation as an ageing star clinging to shortcuts to glory began. Last year, Okada was able to go all the way, despite several setbacks.
Yet the Continental Classic seems the most likely place we will see the long-awaited singles match between The Rainmaker and The Alpha, Konosuke Takeshita. Regardless of whether this is the potential final, there are still ten more slots to fill—plenty of combinations, macro and micro stories to tell.
Who will return for a second or third time? Which wrestlers will make their Continental Classic debut? Who is going to cause an upset? Who is going to break out?
