This week, AEW Dynamite will deliver a four-hour special with Fyter Fest! That’s correct – it’s essentially a Wednesday night PPV for free with some huge matches. Bangers and build on tap, and likely more contests and segments to be announced.
Yet, at the time of writing, a range of big, heavy-hitting singles, tags, and trios matches stack the card. Unlike the infamous disaster of a festival this show takes its namesake inspiration from, this showcase won’t disappoint Denver’s Mission Ballroom. If anything, expect a lot of moving and shaking and off-the-wall reactions, considering AEW comes to another intimate and unique building.
Plenty of things are still to unravel for All In. Could Mark Briscoe score an upset against Jon Moxley after being choked out last week? Or will Moxley make Briscoe give up just to be spiteful to Briscoe’s son and make his daddy a quitter?
With Mercedes Mone on commentary for “Timeless” Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa’s tag match, it will be interesting to hear and see what else these champions have in store. Expect a night where perhaps the wrestling and storytelling hit on the boundaries of the impossible.
The buzz surrounding Thekla and the promise that the Toxic Spider could come to North America was a hot topic online last year. The Idol Killer last year was rumoured to have both AEW and WWE’s attention, and it’s no surprise.
A unique character who became one of the most highly regarded female gaijins in Japan, those unfamiliar with Thekla’s work got a small taste of her capabilities. In her debut last week, the Vienna native demonstrated flexibility, acrobatic skills, and flair as she transitioned from her spider pose to a Matrix-style stance.
With no word on who Thekla’s first opponent will be, this is going to be an exhibition/dissection. A showcase of what the Toxic Spider can and will do to opponents.
It’s likely also that her first victim, Jamie Hayter, isn’t going to stay in the back. However, don’t expect a retreat from the new monster heel in the women’s division. The toxic spider is always hungry.
Kenny Omega’s AEW International Championship reign has been everything we as fans wanted from a return to action. Omega is focused on being the best bout machine and the greatest, most dominant champion in the company.
A perfect parallel/foil to former rival and current Elite member, Kazuchika Okada. Will that potential fifth dream rematch be teased again on Wednesday? Let’s not think that far ahead.
Instead, considering the three distinct opponents Omega is facing, who knows if there will be a surprise upset. Mascara Dorada has been sensational in the ring since leaving WWE and joining CMLL.
Dorada floats like air and moves fluidly for opponents, big and small. Imagining how monsters Brody King and Claudio Castagnoli might throw The King of Ropes around is exhilarating.
A mini beef battle between Castagnoli and King could rattle some teeth. That’s without considering the wizardry and genius of Omega at making every moment and action count. On a show with so many show-stealers, this could steal the week.
