Where is AEW Fright Night Dynamite?

AEW Dynamite aired live, again from the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, Texas.

  • FTR defeated Young Bucks, JetSpeed, & Jurassic Express
  • Don Callis Family Summit resulted in Konosuke Takeshita and Kazuchika Okada having a tag match on 11/1 episode of AEW Collision

  • Samoa Joe defeated Hook, Bobby Lashley, & Ricochet

Darby Allin & Orange Cassidy defeated Death Riders (Daniel Garcia & Wheeler Yuta)

(It’s a rare occurrence when Cassidy and Allin team up, which feels like it should be more often. That said, Garcia and Yuta have felt like they’ve been tag teaming for years. This is funny, considering Garcia’s only been in the Death Riders for a few months.)

Allin and Cassidy immediately pounced on the Death Riders after the bell, but were quickly overtaken and choked by clothes. Yuta taunted the Texas crowd when Allin struck him with a chair and battered him in the head before launching himself at him between the ropes. Garcia hurled Cassidy over the barricade; as the Freshley Squeezed one mocked him, Garcia joined Yuta in their assault among the crowd. Allin descended via Coffin Drop atop the upper level to rescue his partner. He followed up with a dropkick to Garcia on the barricade.

Back in the ring, Cassidy overcame the Riders with DDTs. He almost landed a Stundog Billionaire when Garcia locked in a Guillotine Hold. Yuta complemented this with a dive from the top rope onto the table outside. Allin demanded Garcia hit him with his own skateboard; it was only a ruse for a Canadian Destroyer. Garcia saved Yuta from a Coffin Drop pin.  Cassidy did the same for Allin with an Orange Punch. Cassidy dropped Garcia through a table. With a Scorpion Deathlock engaged, Allin tapped out Yuta.

Hook Had Eyes on the 4-Way

Carrying his luggage into the arena, the Cold-Hearted Handsome Devil acknowledged his impending war with the Almighty Bobby Lashley and the bald Ricochet. However, he laced venom into his promo when he declared that he would personally prevent Samoa Joe from a rematch with Hangman Adam Page.

FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) defeated Young Bucks (Nicholas & Matthew Jackson),  JetSpeed (Speedball Mike Bailey & Kevin Knight), and Jurassic Express (Jack Perry & Luchasaurus)

(High-octane tag team thriller here. Everyone hit their spots, ultimately delivering a compelling performance. FTR was a great ground base to circumvent the dynamit style of the Bucks, agility of JetSpeed, and heart of Jurassic Express.)

Don Callis provided the Bucks with their previous entrance from their EVP era.

Harwood stole a tag from Perry, distracted by the Bucks. However, Harwood received a string of kicks from a prepared Bailey. Perry tagged back in, and Knight joined Bailey, to which Luchasaurus absorbed their onslaught; the four men reached a stalemate in this exchange. FTR and the Bucks coordinated their efforts to take down Luchasaurus, who retaliated with stiff punches to everyone. Knight avoided a Shatter Machine, tagging Perry in for a double-hurricanrana. An irate FTR propelled Perry face-first into the commentary desk. Wheeeler dropkicked Nicholas through the ropes, later suffering a flurry of kicks courtesy of Bailey. Caught on the top rope, Knight was sent flying from a Superplex to the outside, bowling everyone down to the floor.

Luchasaurus avenged Perry, who had been streamrolled by the Bucks. The dinosaur then charged at each member of the Bucks and FTR. He then chokeslammed FTR and the Bucks. Bailey held Perry at bay so Knight could drop Luchasaurus with a Pendulum DDT. Bailey executed a Springboard Splash to the opposition outside, while Knight landed one on Luchasaurus in the ring. Baiely avoided a Double Superkick but dropped to another. The Bucks hit Wheeler with a Shatter Machine to no avail. Knight suffered an EVP Trigger, which also proved fruitless. Bailey hit a moonsault that rendered Wheeler and Luchasaurus horizontal. FTR dropped Knight with a Shatter Machine; they gained the pinfall as Perry and Matthew failed to reach them in time.

Don Callis Family Summit

(Having Takeshita and Okada team up again when they’ve spent the past month doing so is kind of silly.)

Everyone, aside from the non-compete clause’d Andrade, the injured Brian Cage, and the embittered Konosuke Takeshita came to the ring. Callis addressed the rumors of the beef between Konosuke Takeshita and Kazuchika Okada. Rocky Romero unveiled a painting with all the Family members (sans Andrade). Josh Alexander then aired a video packaged touting the group’s successes. Kyle Fletcher then recited the Don Callis Family oath.

Takeshita emerged, to which Callis attempted to quell his attitude; the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion moved his hand down. Okada came to stare him in the eyes as Callis frantically sought to simmer the tension. Referencing the time when it was solely Callis and Takeshita, assured him that he has a place solidified in the Family. Tenderly, he asked Takeshita to shake Okada’s hand, then grew more aggressive. Callis then pleaded with Takeshita to shake hands; Okada raised his, only to lent Takeshita an obscene hand gesture. Infuriated, Callis forced them to team up on the November 1 episode of AEW Collision.

CMLL’s Olympia promo package, Kris Statlander backstage interview

Olympia challenged Mercedes Mone for the CMLL World Women’s Championship. Renee Paquette asked Statlander about her match with Mone ahead of Full Gear; the AEW Women’s World Champion responded that she’d be watching Mone’s match at Collision closely.

Jon Moxley versus Kyle O’Reilly ended in a Double-Countout

(Moxley and O’Reilly have made the most of their matches, keeping things exciting while doing something new each match. Each time, the story of Moxley’s fighting spirit dying like flickering embers from a once-great flame. Great stuff.)

O’Reilly swiftly gained control of Moxley, targeting his left leg. The Death Rider retorted, biting his opponent’s ear. Trapping Moxley’s legs on the ropes, O’Reilly twisted the left with a Dragon Screw Legwhip. Moxley reversed it with a Fujiwara Armbar and a subsequent Crossface. O’Reilly flailed to the bottom rope, but couldn’t reach it as Moxley gouged his eyes. When O’Reilly’s juji gatame failed, he relied on an Ankle Lock. The pair traded knee strikes, with O’Reilly evolving into an elbow. O’Reilly swung Moxley’s Gotch-Style Piledriver into a Triangle Choke. Lariat from a bloody Moxley gave him some air to breathe. Returning once more to an Ankle Lock, O’Reilly grimaced as his efforts ended in vain.

Hoping to inflict more pain on Moxley, O’Reilly caught him in an armbar. Marina Shafir halted O’Reilly from hurling himself at Moxley. Undeterred, O’Reilly tormented Moxley as Referee Aubrey Edwards counted to ten.

Post-match: Shafir struck Edwards and bickered with O’Reilly. Claudio Castagnoli joined Moxley in battering O’Reilly. Roderick Strong came to O’Reilly’s aid. The Death Riders overwhelmed both of them. The Conglomeration and Darby Allin chased off the Death Riders. Allin urged Moxley to end it right there. Briscoe agreed, and said Cassidy had a game plan. Cassidy seemed to disagree before reluctantly responding with “uhgghh… Blood and Guts.”

Mercedes Mone ambushed Kris Statlander

Mone dragged Statlander to the entrance. Statlander got the better of her physically, but Athena thwarted it. Mone hit a Backstabber, and Athena followed with an O-Face. Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron sprinted to disperse the villains.

Sisters of Sin (Julia Hart & Skye Blue) defeated Jamie Hayter & Queen Aminata

(This match further left me in anticipation for the Women’s Blood & Guts Match.)

Aminata promptly got the better of Blue, planting the opponent with her signature Chocolate Kisses. Hayter and Aminata dropped the Sisters of Sin with a double suplex. Sisters of Sin soon gained momentum, teaming up on Hayter; Hart drove the Brit’s skull repeatedly into the mat. Aminata left Blue in a sitting position, delivering vicious kicks on Bluek. Hayter’s Missile Dropkick further wounded Blue. Aminata wrenched Blue’s arm in a submission hold, to which Hart broke up. Thekla crawled from under the ring to equalize Hayter with a Spear. Sisters of Sin slammed Aminata on the mat for the pinfall.

Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford update

Ford announced she would be unable to compete in the Women’s World Tag Team Championship Tournament, as she’d be out of action indefinitely. Bayne challenged any woman tough enough to step up to her or with her. Marina Shafir did just that, to Jon Moxley’s delight.

Samoa Joe defeated Bobby Lashley, Hook, and Ricochet

(An entertaining main event, albeit not quite an epic one. Yet, it was overall a fun matchup. Having Joe run it back wit hAdam Page is a bit puzzling, but I’m ready for however it goes.)

Joe and Lashley clobbered each other, while Hook approached his former trios partner. Ricochet dropkicked Lashley and taunted Hook. Unfortunately for him, Ricochet was flung about by both men. Lashley hit him with a Spear and tossed him into a Northern Lights Suplex via Hook. Annoyed by Lashley’s subsequent interference, Lashley urged him to calm down before blasting him with a kick. Ricochet soared into the Almighty with a tope suicida. Joe at last made it to his feet to bowl both of them over with a smirk.

Joe thrashed Ricochet about with his brawling style. Lashley tossed Ricochet across the ring to the outside. The two goliaths collided, resulting in Lashley planting Joe with a Spinebuster, with another on Ricochet. Hook fired back, inevitably sending him into Joe’s lariat. Hook and Joe faced off, with the former miraculously suplexing the latter. Ricochet laid out everyone, hitting Joe with a Sasuke Special. His Shooting Star Press failed to immobilize Hook for the pinfall. Hook intercepted Ricochet’s Spirit Gun for a Redrum. Joe’s Senton broke the submission. Chaos erupted, with Ricochet slamming Lashley’s back wit ha chairshot. Hook, distracted by this, tapped out to a sudden Coquina Clutch from Joe as Lashley watched, frozen.

Post-match: Tony Schiavone brought forth a crew to deliver the Full Gear contract to Joe. The crew was adorned in costumes, featuring a slab of meat, a chicken, and a Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. The Opps proceeded to batter the costume-wearing group. Joe signed the contract, making the match official. Microphone in hand, Joe proclaimed he would be the next AEW Men’s World Champion. Schiavone then proposed a toast with the Opps. To their shock, however, that was not Schiavone, but rather Hangman Adam Page himself.

Final Thoughts

The show was a blast, an improvement on last week’s Dynamite. Joe and Hook’s chemistry proved to be the most intriguing part of the main event. But that bamboozlement of Adam Page was truly epic! FTR versus BroDido at Full Gear will be a joy as well. I’m looking forward to Marina Shafir teaming with Megan Bayne as well. And once again, Kyle O’Reilly maintained exquisite chemsitry with Jon Moxley.
