AJ Lee returned to WWE for the first time since Wrestlepalooza this past Monday. It was an action-packed night in Madison Square Garden, highlighted by John Cena’s final scheduled Raw appearance. On a night that featured surprise returns, a massive title change, and perhaps a WarGames preview, there were a myriad of reasons for WWE fans to be excited.
Some fans were beginning to worry that Lee’s return was just a one-off, which was understandable after two months away. Those doubts seemed to have dispelled on Monday, and she may be preparing for a monumental clash. Here is a recap of her night, and a preview of what may be on the horizon.
Becky Lynch put her Women’s Intercontinental Championship on the line against Maxxine Dupri, and looked to be on her way to victory. After plenty of back-and-forth action, Lynch was able to regain control, deliver a series of strikes, and toss Dupri outside the ring. Referee Jessika Carr would begin the ten-count, and Lynch would use this as an opportunity to attempt an exposure of the turnbuckle. She was obviously not prepared for what would happen next.
Yes, Lee would skip down the aisle for the first time since September, distracting Lynch long enough for Dupri to deliver a diving crossbody and become IC champion. Lee and Dupri would embrace, as Lynch lay inside the squared circle in shock! That occurrence should renew the rivalry that began a couple of months ago, when Lee ended her ten-year hiatus to assist her husband, CM Punk.
The post-match interview with Jackie Redmond featured Lee and Dupri. The rest of Alpha Academy, Akira Tozawa, and Otis, would interrupt the Dupri portion of the segment, leaving Redmond alone with Lee. Redmond would ask a question that was probably on the mind of many fans, which was: “Any chance you’re gonna stick around?” The response was encouraging.
Jackie, when I came back, I wanted to help my husband out. He needed a hand, but Becky, she just lights a fire in me that I had forgot that I had. She makes me feel things. So, who knows?
An opportunity to utilize that fire may have presented itself following the interview. As Lee started to walk away, she was stopped in her tracks by Rhea Ripley. Ripley asked Lee if she had a second to chat, to which she responded with “Sure.” The two would then walk off together, likely to discuss WarGames.
The Survivor Series WarGames teams now appear to be set, as Charlotte Flair also seems to be back on board. Team Ripley looks to consist of herself, Iyo Sky, Alexa Bliss, Flair, and Lee.
The opposing team currently has Nia Jax, Lash Legend, and the Kabuki Warriors. The fifth member would likely be Lynch based on the events that ensued on Raw. The Man will surely want a chance to get a hold of Lee, as her distraction helped cost Lynch the IC title.
Lee fans can now rejoice, as previous rumors of her being a part of Survivor Series appear to be confirmed. She erased the ten-year ring rust recently and may now compete in one of the more brutal matches in WWE. WarGames is just over a week away, so the official word should be coming in the next few days.
