In the history of tag teams within WWE, there have been many different stories regarding their formation. Some pairs have been friends going back to their days on the independent circuit. Others are real-life family members, like brothers or cousins, so they have a built-in bond. However, some teams are placed together that share a common goal. Sometimes they work well together, and other times they implode because of their differences.
A great example of the former is Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair, the current Women’s Tag Team Champions. It’s only been a couple of weeks, but so far things have worked out well for them. On paper, this wouldn’t seem like a successful team-up for a multitude of reasons. However, they’ve managed to make things work, given they have more in common than people might think.
For nearly a decade, Bliss and Flair have been mainstays on the main roster. They’ve had multiple defining moments in their careers, along with tons of championship reigns. Including her 24/7 title reign, Bliss has been champion 10 separate times on the main roster.
She was also the winner of the Women’s Money in the Bank match in 2018, cashing in and winning the Raw Women’s Championship from Nia Jax. Flair has been champion 17 separate times on the main roster and won the Women’s Royal Rumble in 2020 and 2025. Together, they have 27 championship titles between them.
Just from looking at their accolades alone, they know how to win in big moments. Putting aside their differences to be even more successful was key to making this pairing work. Walking out of SummerSlam as champions showed their determination to work together as a team.
Every year in WWE, multiple people come and go. Some leave due to contract expirations, while others are part of mass releases. Many come up every year through NXT, and some get signed from the independent circuit or other companies.
Bliss and Flair have seen many women make their main roster debuts, but they’ve also seen a lot of women leave the company or get fired. To still be on the main roster after nearly a decade is a triumphant achievement, given how often the roster changes.
With these changes, they’ve seen young women rise into the wrestlers and champions they’ve been hyped up to be. They may be allies of convenience now, but it might turn into allies of necessity soon. With young stars and a draft potentially coming soon, working together will help them stay major players in the Raw women’s division.
Odd couple tag teams within WWE are usually a hit or miss situation. Either they overcome their differences and become successful, or things will be a disaster within the first couple of weeks together.
With Bliss and Flair, their partnership has brought them both success and championship gold. The number of championships between the two of them shows that they know their way around a WWE ring. They know how to win, but could they do it together?
It showed at SummerSlam that they could, and they even retained their titles two nights later on Raw. They also know that they are the veterans in the Raw locker room. On any given day, there could be a roster shuffle. Working together successfully will prevent them from being in danger of leaving. Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair have entertainingly made an interesting team-up work.
