Alexa Bliss Gets Real About A Surprising WWE Career Low

It’s easy to look at a WWE Superstar like Alexa Bliss and assume their career has been a highlight reel of championship wins and sold-out arenas. With a Triple Crown under her belt and a current reign as Women’s Tag Team Champion alongside Charlotte Flair, who could blame you? But even for the most decorated athletes, there are moments and missed opportunities that stick with them.

In a surprisingly candid chat, Bliss pulled back the curtain on a part of her past that still stings a little: her time in NXT. While fans remember her managing Blake and Murphy or her early singles run, many might not realize a significant milestone she never achieved.

What Major WWE Milestone Did Alexa Bliss Miss?

Speaking on the In The Kliq podcast, Alexa Bliss revealed that despite her three-year tenure in NXT before her main roster call-up in 2016, she never once competed in a TakeOver match. Yeah, you read that right. One of the most prominent women in modern WWE never got her moment on what was, for years, NXT’s biggest stage.

“I, unfortunately, never had a TakeOver match,” Bliss admitted. “So it kind of felt like my TakeOver.”

She’s referring to her recent return to NXT at the Homecoming special, where she and Charlotte Flair defended their Women’s Tag Team Titles against Izzi Dame and Tatum Paxley. For Bliss, this wasn’t just another title defense; it was a chance to finally get the experience she missed out on years ago.

“It was fun, and I liked the intimate crowd,” she explained. “It was fun to kind of be in that setting again because it’s such a different type of crowd… For me, that was my NXT takeover, and it was fun.”

It’s a bit of a wild fact, isn’t it? It just goes to show that the path to the top isn’t always a straight line. While Bliss didn’t get to shine under the bright lights of a TakeOver, she more than made up for it on the main roster, becoming a multi-time champion and a household name. Still, you can’t help but feel a little for the NXT-era Bliss who watched those big shows from the sidelines.

How Did the Bliss and Flair Tag Team Happen?

The pairing of Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair seemed to come out of nowhere. Two dominant, often antagonistic forces joining together? It sounds like a recipe for disaster, or at least a very short-lived alliance. But as it turns out, the whole thing was Bliss’s idea.

She told the podcast that creative presented her with a list of potential partners, and she just tossed Flair’s name into the ring.

“I was like, ‘What about Charlotte? We have this long past, that could be a fun dynamic, these two people who don’t normally get along… getting stuck together,'” Bliss said.

And just like that, one of the most unexpected tag teams in recent memory was born. Creative ran with the idea, and now we’re seeing two former rivals navigate a tag team championship reign, which Bliss amusingly compares to a sibling rivalry. It’s a classic odd-couple pairing that somehow, against all odds, seems to be working.

Returning to Full Sail with Flair for NXT Homecoming was what Bliss described as a “full-circle moment.” She recalled her very first match on those same steps against Alicia Fox and another early filming day against Charlotte herself. Coming back all these years later, as a champion alongside that same opponent, gave her a chance to appreciate just how far she’s come. It might not have been the TakeOver she once dreamed of, but maybe, just maybe, it was something even better.
