Chad Gable would be a major pull for AEW

Chad Gable's contract with WWE is set to expire on Friday. The Alpha Academy star has received a big push from WWE recently. The reigning Intercontinental champion is set to face Sami Zayn at the Clash at the Castle premium live event in Glasgow on June 15. And he has a budding storyline with Otis.

However, it appears WWE is facing competition for Gable. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, both WWE and AEW are interested in signing him to a deal. The report also stated that WWE has made Gable an "excellent offer" to retain its 38-year-old star.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful has also confirmed AEW's interest.

Gable would be a major addition to AEW. His in-ring talent would fit well with the product Tony Khan likes to produce. However, he is also a reliable presence in promos and vignettes. He has the charisma to hold the audience's attention while thriving as either a baby face or a heel. He would give AEW another star capable of drawing in more casual viewers.

It's also worth noting that Gable's recent push by WWE has made him more popular with its fan base. As such, if he were to jump ship and join AEW, he could bring a new wave of viewers with him.

However, Gable would be another mouth who needs feeding. AEW is already dealing with a bloated roster. One of the biggest issues for casual viewers is the fact wrestlers are thrust into shows and then never seen again. It's hard to feel connected to talents who are seen only once or twice a year.

While that wouldn't happen to Gable, it could force another talent to lose television time. Khan needs to begin streamlining his roster — or at least split it between Dynamite and Collision. Nevertheless, adding Gable would be a wise move. If he is willing to leave WWE and join the elite talent group at AEW, he could be a major success, both in the ring and on the microphone.
