WWE was going to have CM Punk vs Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40 before injury, but did the two put aside their grudge and make peace?

There was a time, when CM Punk returning to pro wrestling seemed like a stretch. Eventually, he was convinced to join AEW. He made them a bunch of money and caused a ton of headaches. During his second suspension, Tony Khan released Punk. Then, the unthinkable occurred at Survivor Series as Punk returned to WWE. The reaction from the fans and wrestlers was a mix of joy and some anger. Talent inside the ring, especially Seth Rollins, seemed livid.

Word is WWE only informed the wrestlers in the match about Punk right before they went out. WWE did everything possible to keep Punk’s return a secret and it was as success. Right away, it was obvious Rollins vs Punk was the match WWE wanted. It was heavily teased before the Royal Rumble and then another injury to Punk changed plans.

WrestleMania 40 Plans Tossed

McIntyre will now challenge Rollins at WrestleMania 40 for the World Heavyweight Championship. There is a decent chance McIntyre walks away as the new champion. As for Punk and Rollins, Wade Keller of PWTorch commented on their relationship. ‘‘By all accounts, while Seth harbored legitimate gripes with Punk, the two are getting along backstage when planning their segments,” said Keller. “Punk continues to get all positive reviews from many sources regarding how he is carrying himself amongst colleagues and management.”

Punk did appear on RAW and will be present at WrestleMania 40. Somehow, he might a play role in whomever walks away with the title. WWE could always return to Punk vs Rollins. Also, they there seems to be interest in matches against the likes of Kevin Owens, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes and The Rock. So, did CM Punk and Seth Rollins actually bury their grudge?
