Backstage News On Drew McIntyre’s Mentality About WWE Contract Talks

Although the pen has yet to be put to paper, the belief is Drew McIntyre will sign a new deal with WWE as his existing deal expires after WrestleMania 40.

He won the Men’s Elimination Chamber Match last Saturday, outlasting Randy Orton, Bobby Lashley, LA Knight, Kevin Owens, and Logan Paul. As a result of the win, Drew will challenge World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40.

As previously reported, Mcintyre has told those close to him that he still hasn’t locked in a new WWE deal, but those in WWE are working under the understanding a new deal will be reached. It was added that the next move will focus on family will be a major piece of the decision.

Mentality

Just by his actions, McIntyre has not been in a rush to get a new deal done. While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about how months ago, before turning heel, McIntyre wanted to try out his current character, and if it didn’t work out, he would take time off to spend time with his family and see what was next for him.

“I was checking with people. And it's like, look, you know, the belief is that he knows what the situation is. And, you know, he's already promoting feuds for the summer and the fall. I don't think he's planning on going anywhere. And the thing with him with the contract, I mean, the thing that he was looking for months ago, when, you know, it was the contract was running out, and he wasn't in a rush to sign, was number one; he thought that he wanted to do this new character. And if the new character didn't work out in the booking and the booking wasn't strong and everything like that, the idea was maybe, maybe go back and spend time with the family and take time off. And that was among the thoughts obviously, with the character got over great. And the other aspect of the character getting over great is that by doing so and not signing the feeling is that his price should be higher, because he's a much bigger star. And he's got big programs to come back to then was the situation six months ago. So we'll see how that all works out. But I would feel that his not signing and gambling. I would kind of say couldn't it turned out better, but certainly it turned out good, “Meltzer stated.
