Becky Lynch is the Best — Here’s 3 Reasons Why

The past six months have made one thing clear: Becky Lynch is the best women's wrestler in the game today.

Rhea is the most popular, but she is not the best. IYO or Charlotte might be the most technically proficient, but neither is the best. Bianca or Tiffany could be considered the most athletic, but they don't make the cut for the best.

Becky is the best. Here are three (to me, simple and obvious) reasons why Becky Lynch is the best women's wrestler in the game today.

3. Aura

When Becky shows up, the show goes up. She elevates any show she's involved in.

Becky's aura is the result of years of accumulated equity. The WrestleMania 35 main event may not have been a good match (it wasn't), but Becky is still benefiting from it. No other female wrestler can claim to be the first woman to win in the main event of WrestleMania.

In this respect, Becky is similar to John Cena. Cena instantly brings a 'feel' to the audience because of years of investment. Likewise, Becky holds a key to our emotional connectivity because at the peak of the women's revolution, she held the championship high.

When her career is done, she will owe partial credit for her success to both of her theme songs. "Celtic Invasion" would instantly generate mega pops and create buzz in arenas. "New Lows" has the vibe of a main event veteran whose segment is must-see TV.

2. Mainstream Appeal

Bookmark this article. Over the next ten years, Becky Lynch is going to become a global ambassador for the WWE. Her roles in Young Rock and Happy Gilmore 2 are just the start. Becky has a unique look and sound that is immediately recognizable and not easy to replicate.

She also, like John Cena, has a clean record. No baggage. WWE can put Becky anywhere and trust that she will represent the brand in front of various stakeholder groups.

The older she gets, the less she will want to rely on the physicality of wrestling competition. I would expect Becky to transition to more outside projects within the next five years, while staying under contract with WWE and working big matches. The benefits between her and TKO's WWE will be mutual.

1. Character

This is what sets Becky apart.

It started with her Trish Stratus feud two years ago. That was the first time I saw Becky differentiate her character from the general excitement that came with the women's revolution. During the feud with Trish, the outline of Becky's character was sketched.

After her half-year hiatus and heel run in 2025, that sketch outline is being colored in. The audience finally has a substantive character to interact with.

I questioned if her heel turn was the best choice the night after WrestleMania. It felt forced, and frankly, we were exhausted from a long weekend. It took her over a month to get her cadence down as a heel.

But once she figured it out, she started to deliver every time.

Her feud with Lyra Valkyria made the 28-year-old a star. Bayley, who could be at the start of her best career work, was agitated into relevance by Lynch. She ran circles around Nikki Bella on Raw, proving that celebrity is not enough to excel anymore.

Now, her work with AJ Lee, CM Punk, and Seth Rollins has made their rivalry the hottest story going into a historic weekend for WWE, debuting on ESPN.

I'm not arguing that Becky has put on the best in-ring matches on the women's roster, but WWE is about more than that. This is sports entertainment, and Becky is defining excellence in entertainment.
