It’s safe to say that the WWE Universe is still in shock at what happened at the end of WWE SummerSlam Night 2! For those who missed it, Brock Lesnar made his WWE return after John Cena lost the WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes. Cena, who was still in the ring when Lesnar came out, got hit with an F-5. So what’s his status with the company? The latest Wrestling Observer Radio has information behind Lesnar’s surprise return amid legal troubles.
While discussing his return, Dave Meltzer brought up Lesnar and the Janel Grant lawsuit. In February 2025, according to ESPN.com, former WWE Employee Janel Grant officially identified Lesnar in the federal lawsuit, claiming that Vince McMahon offered her up for sex in 2021 as an “incentive for Lesnar to sign a new contract.” Meltzer said:
“The short version of this is that four weeks ago, WWE legal cleared him. As far as why, I don’t know. Obviously, everything relates to the Janel Grant lawsuit. Either they’re confident that things are going to arbitration and Lesnar’s not a factor at that point, or they’re close to a settlement and then, at that point, Lesnar’s not a factor, or somebody there just had a change of mind, and I don’t know which one of those it is.”
Meltzer later noted that the reason there was no media scrum after the event was because of Lesnar’s involvement in the WWE Premium Event. While Meltzer’s co-host, Bryan Alvarez, thought maybe it was because of Triple H’s involvement with President Donald Trump’s fitness program. Alvarez has also claimed that Lesnar had been “considered part of the active roster for about two months.”
Before this shocking return, Lesnar was removed from the WWE 2K24 game and was removed as a planned entrant for the 2024 Royal Rumble due to the Janel Grant lawsuit. The original lawsuit, which was filed in January 2024, accuses Vince McMahon of “sex trafficking, physical and emotional abuse, sexual assault, and negligence” and had just referred to Lesnar as “star wrestler.” The last time Lesnar was in a WWE ring was against Cody Rhodes at the 2023 SummerSlam PLE, where Rhodes defeated him, while the last time he was in the ring with Cena was at the 2015 Royal Rumble. The match saw him defeat not only Cena but also Seth Rollins.
