Bron Breakker has given a glowing verdict on John Cena by detailing how the newly-crowned WWE Intercontinental Champion is an open book when it comes to offering advice about the pro wrestling business. But Breakker didn't rule out possibly facing Cena before the 17-time world champion calls time on his career on December 13th.
Breakker has never faced Cena, although he encountered the latest member of WWE's grand slam champions' club back in his NXT days. He collided with Carmelo Hayes with Paul Heyman in his corner and Cena in Hayes'.
The Baddest Dog on the Planet is tipped to become the face of the company in the future alongside Dominik Mysterio, whom Cena defeated on Monday's RAW (November 10th) to win the IC title. It's the same championship Breakker dropped at WrestleMania 41 to Dom in a fatal four-way.
Breakker has acknowledged how helpful Cena has been during his journey in WWE and how he is always approachable to lend a helping hand. The 28-year-old told Justin Barrasso of The Boston Herald:
“It’s been an honor to learn from him. He’s a quality human being, and he makes himself approachable. We’ve developed an open line of communication, and I can’t say enough about him."
Cena has just three dates left as a WWE wrestler, the first coming on Monday (November 17th) at Madison Square Garden, which will be the 48-year-old's final ever episode of RAW. He is then set to be in action at Survivor Series WarGames (November 29th) before he finishes his career at Saturday Night's Main Event in December.
Breakker suggested he could still face Cena on one of those three nights:
"There aren’t too many chances left, so it wouldn’t be something I would take lightly. If I get that chance, I’ll be ready."
Cena is reportedly expected to be involved in the WarGames match at Survivor Series in San Diego at the end of the month. He is likely to be added to 'Team CM Punk,' which will see some of the top babyfaces in WWE face The Vision, with Breakker as their leader. That might be the only opportunity we get to see the pair battle in a ring rather than going one-on-one.
WWE and Cena are holding a 16-man tournament in which the winner will go on to face the Intercontinental Champion at Saturday Night's Main Event next month. It's already underway with Rusev and Sheamus booking their places in the second round on RAW this past Monday.
The likes of NXT's Je'Von Evans and the returning Gunther are also participating in the tournament, which will also include stars from outside of the company, possibly from TNA and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. But there's no word on whether Breakker will take part, despite the concept ideally focusing on the future of the business.
The main issue is that Breakker doesn't seem to be a frontrunner to face Cena at SNME because of his current rivalry with World Heavyweight Champion Punk. But having him compete in the tournament and bow out perhaps to the odds on favourite Gunther due to inteference ahead of Survivor Series could be a good way for him to remain strong while also in the mix to try and 'retire' Cena.
