Bryan Danielson is not ruling out a return to the ring in All Elite Wrestling, though the former world champion made it clear that any potential comeback would look very different from what fans are used to.

Danielson Would Return, But Only Under Certain Conditions

In a recent interview with Wide World of Sports’ Liam O’Loughlin, Danielson admitted the possibility remains on the table. “You never say never,” he said when asked about stepping back into competition. Still, he emphasized that his priorities have shifted and his in-ring style would need to reflect that.

“If I tried to do some of the things I did in my last year with AEW right now, I don’t think I’d be able to go back and hold my kids,” Danielson explained. “Anything that I would do moving forward has to be with that in mind, because that is now my No. 1 priority. Stay healthy, be at home and play with my kids and coach my son’s tee-ball team.”

Danielson, 44, wrapped up what many considered a farewell tour last year. The run included a major highlight at All In, where he defeated Swerve Strickland to capture the AEW World Championship. He later defended the belt successfully before ultimately dropping it to Jon Moxley at WrestleDream. That match not only ended his reign but also saw Moxley brutally attack him, signaling Danielson’s exit from regular competition.

Since then, Danielson has made sporadic physical appearances, but his main role has shifted to commentary, where AEW recently installed him as a full-time member of its announce team. Fans have noticed he's adding a different flavor to the broadcast, not afraid to call it like he sees it. That includes occasionally criticizing the in-ring product.

Would Fans Want To See A Watered-Down Bryan Danielson?

The idea of Danielson lacing up his boots again would certainly intrigue AEW fans. Many would love to see it. However, if Danielson can't do many of the things that made him so popular, it could damage his legacy. Danielson seems unwilling to close the door on his wrestling career, despite saying he was done. And, while a 50% version of the performer would be better than most at 100%, it arguably wouldn't be the same.

For now, the “American Dragon” appears comfortable shaping AEW from behind the desk. But as his own words suggest, the door to the ring remains cracked open—just not at the expense of the life he treasures outside it.
