CM Punk expects 'a moment' in potential blockbuster match

CM Punk's second tenure with WWE has been hit-and-miss so far. He has missed significant time with injury, limiting the impact many had hoped for. However, when he is part of the weekly programming, he's still the huge draw we've all come to know.

Punk's initial feud since returning was against Drew McIntyre. They produced some great matches and ultimately left it all in the ring. Punk still has an axe to grind with Seth Rollins, too. However, that hasn't stopped him from dreaming of a potential matchup against Roman Reigns.

"I think whenever myself and Roman Reigns are face-to-face on television, I think that's going to be a moment," Punk said during an appearance on the "Cheap Heat" podcast. "The Shield came here and made a ton of waves in a short amount of time. My relationship with all of those guys was pretty good ... I think a lot of the questions you have, 'What is Punk's relationship with Roman? What does Punk feel about Seth?' All of that stuff is going to play out on television because that's what I do."

A Punk/Reigns match would be a blockbuster. It would undoubtedly be saved for a headliner act at a future WrestleMania. However, WWE fans shouldn't get too excited. Placing Reigns in any feud is almost impossible until The Bloodline story is wrapped up. Considering how hot that story continues to be, it is unlikely to happen any time soon.

Furthermore, it's important for Punk to show some consistency in terms of health and production. Yes, he's an elite star. But he shouldn't be getting headliner matches when he's not on weekly programming for months on end. WWE has too many talents, so allowing him to leapfrog everyone would undoubtedly cause a stir.

WWE made a masterstroke in bringing Punk back. Now, it must ensure it gets the best out of him, and that means getting him back to full fitness and displaying his in-ring and promo talents week after week. Only then can he be placed back into a big-time storyline with another star.
