CM Punk broke the internet when he returned to WWE at Survivor Series almost a decade after he walked out on the company. Punk didn't talk that night, but he did two days later on Raw. The Second City Saint has shared more details about what happened that night, including an interaction between him and Triple H where The Game took Punk's script from him and threw it in the trash.
Punk revealed details about his interaction with Triple H that night during a new interview with SportBible. "I was running around with a piece of paper in my hand that had whatever I was supposed to say. I keep looking at it. Triple H gets up and comes up to me and goes, ‘What are you doing, man? You’re freaking everybody out'," Punk explained.
"He grabbed the piece of paper, crumpled it up, and threw it out. ‘You’re CM Punk. Just go out there and talk to the people'." Punk noted that was exactly what he needed to hear from Triple H in that moment as The Game signed off by telling him to go be himself, as that was why WWE brought him back.
It's understandable that Punk wouldn't want to rock the boat, particularly on his first proper night back in WWE. Not only because of the way he left in 2014, but because of the things he has said about WWE since then, not to mention the legal issues between the two parties. WWE is also a different place, and Punk likely didn't know for sure if he could still be his authentic wrestling self.
That Triple H was the person to say it to Punk was important, too. Not only because Triple H is the boss now, at least when it comes to creative decisions, but because of the past issues between the two of them. Both have been very open about how much they used to dislike each other, but clearly, both of them have grown and are presumably now working very closely together. Evidence that the two of them have grown.
Although I would never want to see Punk go out there and recite a script that had presumably been written for him, I am kind of fascinated to know what it said. The reason Punk was panicking about his script was because his promo time had been cut, and he needed to edit it. The best thing about Punk is what he can do on the fly with a mic in his hand. It's good to know Triple H and WWE know they need to give him free rein to get the best out of him.
