CM Punk set to return to outside WWE duties amidst in-ring hiatus
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

CM Punk wrestled in his first-ever televised match after his return at the Royal Rumble earlier this year. Although he survived until the last two, Cody Rhodes eliminated him to win the titular match. The WWE Universe later learned that Punk got injured during the match, thanks to Drew McIntyre‘s Future Shock DDT, and has been out of in-ring action ever since. Now, amidst his in-ring hiatus, The Best in the World has decided to set aside his WWE duties.

According to a report from PWInsider, CM Punk will be on commentary duties for the Cage Fury Fighting Championships. The next event is on Friday and will be hosted at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. Punk has a long history of fighting in Philly, having wrestled in many matches there. Unfortunately, The Second City Saint was injured the last time WWE was in the city, but he promised fans he would have his boots on the next time the promotion hosted an event.

The 45-year-old star has been associated with Cage Fury Fighting Championships for a long time. Although he has done commentary at various events, this will mark his first appearance there since rejoining WWE. The event on Friday will feature a title fight in the middleweight division between Kyle Daukaus and Keanan Patershuck as the main event.

Speaking of his WWE run, Punk has been involved in a heated rivalry with Drew McIntyre. Both superstars credit themselves with injuring each other and crushing each other’s respective WrestleMania dreams. As of now, both are out with injuries, but there’s no denying that once they meet in the ring, it will make an already exciting rivalry a must-watch.

CM Punk’s bizzare WWE HQ situation questioned by Dutch Mantell

CM Punk infamously locked himself inside WWE HQ after being featured on the Backlash France preshow. He regularly gave updates on social media about his situation and reappeared on the May 6 episode of Raw. However, WWE veteran Dutch Mantell found the whole situation quite shady.

While speaking on his show, “Story Time with Dutch Mantell,” he said that it was all just a work. Mantell couldn’t understand the reason behind it but was baffled by the fact that no security came to the rescue. He further added that they were doing it all for publicity, with WWE even posting his bizarre situation on their social media handles.

You're in the headquarters in Stamford, the WWE Headquarters, and they're shooting this and nobody checks to lock up or anything or check the room? I don't know what happened but I don't think he got locked in. Dutch Mantell on CM Punk via the Story TIme with Dutch Mantell

The Second City Saint had to spend the night at the WWE Headquarters itself. He shared a video of himself enjoying the gym amenities and a fridge full of food. However, there was no bed available, so Punk ended up sleeping on a couch for the night.
