The main event of WrestleMania 41 will go down as a historic flop. John Cena was always going to topple Cody Rhodes and shatter Ric Flair's world title record—that much was obvious. But for Cena to get the win thanks to a massive assist from Travis Scott and the most mind-numbing case of babyface syndrome from Rhodes soured what should have been a banner moment for the company.
Over the last month, Rhodes has gotten some much-needed time off, but his absence has left a seismic hole in WWE programming. The main event scene has suffered without his presence, and the Cena title reign has fallen flat in a lot of areas. Thankfully, it seems like "The American Nightmare" won't be out for too much longer.
According to Joe of WrestleVotes and Sportskeeda during a recent Q&A, Cody Rhodes is still slated to appear at the next PLE.
"I do believe he's still scheduled to be part of the Money in the Bank show," Joe said. "I don't know if he's wrestling, and I don't know if that's when his return will happen. But as far as I know, he will be in Los Angeles for that event."
Money in the Bank is on June 7th. That timeline suggests that if Rhodes makes a comeback before MITB, he will have three episodes of "SmackDown" plus an edition of "Saturday Night's Main Event."
In the same video, legendary wrestling journalist Bill Apter theorized Rhodes could win the briefcase, but at this point, that seems inconceivable given the current booking trajectory. Rhodes is still the heavy favorite to dethrone Cena at the end of the year and will likely take a longer path to reclaiming his championship.
