Wrestling is finally starting to garner some mainstream relevance again. After peak popularity in the 1990s, WWE's monopoly on the industry allowed it to become conservative, which made programming stale and catered too much to advertisers.

The formation of AEW has forced a new age of competition, which benefits companies across the globe. But that also means it's never been harder to succeed as a pro wrestler. So, what's the secret to reaching the big leagues and getting to the top? One current WWE champion provided some intriguing insight on how to stand out.

During a recent interview with Sangita Patel and Carlos Bustamante of the Click and Tell podcast, Chelsea Green gave a blunt analysis of how to identify the 'it factor' in wrestling. "It always changes," Green said. "That's the beauty of it. It ebbs and flows. No one wants to see someone on top forever. When new girls come in, they bring that new 'it factor,' and sometimes we don't even know what it is."

Considering her meteoric rise, Green is the perfect person to ask this question. As she mentioned in the discussion, she got over in a unique way for a women's wrestler. She doesn't possess the natural athleticism of the likes of Bianca Belair or Rhea Ripley—she is a believable comedy wrestler with impeccable timing.

Green is a flawless worker, but her superpower is playing to the crowd. Right now, character work is probably just as important as what people can do in the ring. Jey Uso seemingly has less than 10 moves but is a fiery promo and will have a featured match at WrestleMania.

The business is constantly changing, and it's refreshing to listen to someone so aware of her surroundings and willing to adapt when needed.
