Damian Priest has an opportunity to shine on 'Smackdown'

On Saturday's episode of "WWE Smackdown," Damian Priest was revealed as the latest superstar to switch brands. The former world heavyweight champion was pitted against Carmelo Hayes for his opening match on the Blue Brand.

Priest should thrive now that he's on the "Smackdown" roster. His storylines on "RAW" had begun to grow stale. There are only so many times he can face Finn Balor and the Judgement Day in revenge matches before the crowd loses interest.

By moving to "Smackdown," Priest will now have a string of fresh matches available to him, including the one against Hayes. He could quickly find himself feuding with LA Knight, Randy Orton, Kevin Owens or even against Solo Sikoa's Bloodline.

The WWE universe will likely react well to additional options for Priest. He could form a new faction or stay as a lone wolf while chasing new title opportunities. In truth, WWE's roster split is something that works exceptionally well, especially for stars who have run out of rope with specific stories and need a reset.

Moving brands quickly creates a clean slate. Still, Priest isn't the last WWE talent to be shuffled around. Over the past few weeks, the company's move to Netflix has seen a couple of faces swap brands, and it likely isn't done. Priest could potentially wind up stepping into a big role on "Smackdown" as one of the primary faces on the roster. He's talented and experienced enough to shoulder the additional responsibility.

For now, though, fans can look forward to some new angles for one of the harder-hitting stars within WWE. Outside of that, all we can do is trust that the creative department have a plan on how to keep pushing Priest in a positive direction and that "Smackdown" will continue to be the leading brand for the company.
