'Doesn’t Have What It Takes' For WWE: Lyra Valkyria On Conor McGregor
WWE
  • Valkyria doubts McGregor's WWE potential due to lack of skills.
  • WWE is selective about non-wrestling stars, despite McGregor's appeal.
  • Valkyria questions McGregor's ability to handle wrestling's demands.

WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Lyra Valkyria isn’t sold on the idea of fellow Irish star Conor McGregor stepping into the squared circle. In fact, she doesn't think McGregor has what it takes if he were to consider making the jump seriously.

Valkyria Doesn't Like McGregor's Chances In WWE

In a recent interview with the Irish Mirror, Valkyria — the first-ever holder of WWE’s newly minted Women’s Intercontinental Title — threw shade on McGregor’s ability to transition from an MMA and UFC icon to WWE superstar. “He doesn’t have what it takes,” she said bluntly when asked about McGregor's often-rumored WWE potential.

McGregor has teased the idea of joining WWE for years. Given his crossover appeal and the eyeballs he would bring to their product, WWE would probably love to have him. However, WWE isn't keen on bringing in big non-wrestling stars for matches if they don't take training seriously. Logan Paul, Bad Bunny, and Ronda Rousey have made the jump, some quite successfully. Names like Becky Lynch have publicly stated that McGregor could too, with his eventual arrival "very likely."

To date, McGregor hasn’t ruled out future involvement with WWE, but the idea has seemed to fade away with time.

Valkyria doesn't explain why she thinks McGregor won't cut it, and she doesn't say he will never appear, but she doesn't like his chances.

Valkyria Is Working Her Way Up WWE's Ladder

Valkyria said, “I just had my one-year on Raw on May 1st, and I can’t believe how much I’ve managed to do in that time.” She added, “To go from sitting in the NXT box watching WrestleMania last year to tag-teaming with Becky one year later is insane."

It's a bit surprising that Valkyria doesn't seem excited about McGregor potentially showing up one day. Considering how proud she is of the growing Irish influence in WWE, one would think she'd welcome him. “The amount of Irish on Raw alone is incredible,” she said. “It’s such a talented bunch to have come from our country, so I’m really proud to be a part of that.”

As for McGregor, while his flashy persona may seem like a natural fit for WWE, Valkyria’s comments suggest that it takes more than charisma to make it in professional wrestling.
