Dominik Mysterio’s IC Championship Reign Ends in Emotional WWE WrestleMania Moment

Dominik Mysterio has been such a fantastic Intercontinental Champion that when he does lose his title, it will be a moment for WWE's history books. Dom has held the gold since WrestleMania 41, when he won a fatal four-way involving Bron Breakker, Finn Balor and Penta.

The 28-year-old looks destined to become a future world champion and could step up to the main event scene in the coming months. But that should also mean he parts ways with his title to enter the World Heavyweight Championship conversation.

While speculation is growing over John Cena dethroning Dom in a potential title match at Survivor Series, it feels as though his reign wouldn't be complete if he weren't to win it back from Cena. This possibility aside, the perfect destination for the Judgment Day member to officially lose his title is WrestleMania 42.

Original Americano Stirs Up Rumble Trouble

The sky is the limit for Dom, who has defended his Intercontinental Championship against some of the biggest names in WWE, including AJ Styles. Suppose he does enter Allegiant Stadium with gold. In that case, it will be a year exactly since he claimed the title and continued to ascend to the top of the business, while also capturing the AAA Mega Championship.

Dom will have his sights set on a possible world title opportunity ahead of WrestleMania 42, which can be achieved through a Royal Rumble win. He'll have help in the form of El Grande Americano and his minions, who have recently aligned with the son of Rey Mysterio and seem to be pushing him away from the Judgment Day.

His dreams of main-eventing Mania can be torn away by a returning El Grande Americano (the original brew), who is back from a rotator cuff injury, and to make it clear that the man who has been donning the mask over the past few months is a fraud. It's no secret that Chad Gable is the original Americano, creating the character as part of his heel American Made gimmick.

Gable even scored his first Mania victory in April while performing as the character, defeating Rey Fenix, and a win on the grandest stage of them all was a long time coming for the 39-year-old. But he should shock Dom when he sends him packing from the Rumble, only for the replacement Americano to eventually eliminate him from the contest.

This leaves fans second-guessing Gable's intentions, but he shouldn't return as the masked luchador, as Ludwig Kaiser is proving to be a massive hit in that role. But this also helps the American Made leader resonate with fans once he unmasks on an episode of RAW and pretends the world is stunned by news they already knew from the very beginning.

Gable Mania

Many forget just how over Gable was before his injury and especially after WrestleMania 40, when he blew his lid at real-life friend Otis and turned heel after missing out on an Intercontinental Championship match. Fans even understood his storyline frustrations because he has yet to hold a singles title in his career.

That's why, as a tweener, akin to Kurt Angle during the Attitude Era, Gable can play an eager veteran who wants to win gold now that he's back to himself. But Dom continues to duck him as he has continuously done with most challengers during his reign.

Instead, he directs Los Americanos to do his dirty work, with Gable outnumbered and failing to realign with American Made, who fume at his absence and lack of support. He struggles to find anyone to help him deal with the three-man Americano group until he makes amends with Alpha Academy's Otis and Akira Tozawa.

RAW's general manager, Adam Pearce, decides to book a three-on-three match at Elimination Chamber, with Gable granted a title shot at Dom if his team wins. They get the job done, and the WrestleMania 42 title match is booked, although there is still the issue of the champion's role in The Judgment Day, but tension is growing within the group on the Road to Mania.

Gable gets his big Mania outing without donning a mask and wrestling as himself in front of a packed Allegiant Stadium. There are twists and turns along the way, but he eventually manages to get a heartwarming win, thanks to Otis preventing Americanos from spilling the match out of control.

Unfinished Academy Business Gets a New Angle

There are always shocks on the RAW after WrestleMania, and that should be the case during Gable's Intercontinental Championship celebration. Taking inspiration from The Rock and Mick Foley's 'This is your Life' segment, Alpha Academy can tell the story of Gable's road to a Mania title win, including mocking his run as Shorty G.

Gable can apologize to Otis, Tozawa, and Maxxine Dupri for his actions and for not relying on them at all times, rather than forming a group (American Made) in his vision. It's a moment that has fans on their feet, applauding the reunion of the academy.

That's until Otis turns on Gable as the others exit the ring, destroying his longtime friend and telling him he forgives, but never forgets, much like fans who still want their feud settled. Tozawa and Dupri are stopped in their tracks by The Creed Brothers and Ivy Nile, who ambush the pair before ending the segment by joining their new leader, Otis, in the ring.

To add even more spice, Kurt Angle could be revealed as the stable's manager, giving the group a voice and a household name who will have fans locked to their screens to see the WWE Hall of Famer return. He has been open to working as Gable's manager, but opposing him could work wonders, as there is a subplot in which the Olympic Gold Medallist feels copied.

This also allows WWE to revisit the Otis-Gable feud, which was one of the most intriguing stories last year, but just faded out without a resolution. The roles are reversed, and we see how Otis performs as a heel with a different character and the Intercontinental Championship in sight ahead of a SummerSlam showdown.
