Drew McIntyre Makes First WWE Title Defence
WWE

Drew McIntyre has made his first Undisputed WWE Championship defence as part of a homecoming show in Scotland.

McIntyre shockingly won the top title in WWE during a three-stages of hell match in Berlin on WWE SmackDown on Friday night.

The win saw McIntyre finally defeat longtime rival Cody Rhodes.

It also fulfilled his prophecy that the next time he returned to his native Scotland, he would be WWE Champion.

In June 2024, McIntryre was set to win the World Heavyweight Championship at Clash at the Castle in Glasgow. But CM Punk screwed McIntyre.

McIntyre Defends Top WWE Title in Scotland

McIntyre wasted no time defending the championship by putting it on the line against Shinsuke Nakamura in Glasgow on Saturday (1/11/26). He successfully retained the title against Nakamura.

After the hard-fought victory, the Scot addressed his home crowd, saying it had been a long, hard journey to fulfil his promise to walk into the Glasgow Hydro as WWE Champion.

McIntyre reflected on holding the championship during the pandemic, when there were no fans, and on how special it was that Glasgow was the first place he appeared after winning the title.

McIntyre’s Next Undisputed WWE Championship Defence

The Undisputed WWE Championship will be defended at the Royal Rumble on January 31, 2026.

A tournament to find his opponent kicks off on WWE SmackDown in London. Randy Orton, The Miz, Solo Sikoa, Damian Priest, Sami Zayn, Ilja Dragunov, Trick Williams and Matt Cardona will compete in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Gunther faces AJ Styles on WWE Raw in Düsseldorf as WWE remains in Germany.
