After CM Punk's dramatic exit from All Elite Wrestling, his fate in the business was uncertain. Punk's politicking behind the scenes and backstage rift with various performers and producers was starting to outweigh his elite abilities in the ring and on the mic. Vince McMahon's timely upheaval as the head of WWE Creative allowed Punk to do the unthinkable and return to the promotion he was fired from in 2014.
Drew McIntyre was one of the stars who was less than thrilled with the Chicago native being back in the fold, but the pair put on one of the best feuds of the 2020s for the bulk of 2024. But what does McIntyre think of Punk now after the two shared undeniable chemistry in the squared circle?
While appearing on the WAFFLIN' podcast, McIntyre didn't hold back when talking about his current relationship with Punk. "We don't like each other," McIntyre said. "We genuinely don't. But we're able to be professional enough within the confines of WWE to turn it into magic on television, which it was, because it was very much based in reality. Him and I didn't always collaborate, we just talked to a mediator, and we'll see you out there, and we just went like the old west on the microphone with each other."
Despite some real-life animosity, Punk and McIntyre were always able to put on stellar matches, and their entire program was excellent. With how long the angle was, it's shocking they weren't able to become a bit more civil, but it's normal for some to not get along with coworkers.
Regardless of their beef, Punk and McIntyre create magic together and have enough unresolved disdain to revisit the storyline in the future.
