Facts About The Undertaker’s Iconic WWE WrestleMania Streak

Wrestlers achieve many big feats during their careers. Some win the most World Championships; others hold the record for most sell-outs. And then there is The Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak. One can even say it was the greatest winning streak in the history of WWE.

It’s been over 11 years since The Streak ended, but to this day, nobody has been able to create anything similar, and they probably never will. Undertaker’s streak was one of a kind, and there are many behind-the-scenes stories about it that many fans may not know.

The Undertaker Never Wanted To End His WrestleMania Streak

The Undertaker recently talked about his WrestleMania streak while answering some fan comments on his Six Feet Under podcast. One fan had asked him why he couldn’t keep it alive forever. Undertaker said that’s what he wanted as well, but at the end of the day, this was WWE’s call, and he didn’t have a choice.

Either he could do a shoot fight with Lesnar at WrestleMania and refuse to lose, or go through with the original plan. Undertaker made his call. He ended up getting a concussion during the bout and doesn’t remember anything from that night. He said:

“People ask me all the time, ‘Why did you do it?’ Well, I didn’t really have a choice. Yeah, I guess I did have a choice. I didn’t have to do it … And then what happens? Me and Brock are having to shoot at WrestleMania, and then it wouldn’t have been good.” (H/T NYFights.com)

Undertaker has been a company man through and through, so his statement makes sense.

Believed Roman Reigns Should’ve Ended His Streak Instead

WWE fans still argue whether Brock Lesnar was the best choice to beat The Undertaker. By the time The Streak ended, Lesnar was already a UFC Champion, had won multiple WWE World Championships, and had one of the most dominating returns in 2012.

So Lesnar winning against The Undertaker didn’t do much for him as a character, according to many fans. However, Vince McMahon had different views regarding this, and he believed Lesnar needed to beat someone unbeatable like The Phenom at WrestleMania to solidify his status as The Conqueror. A few years back, The Undertaker also discussed this subject and believed that Roman Reigns should’ve been the one to end his streak instead.

The Undertaker Doesn’t Remember His WrestleMania 30 Match

The Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar was one of the most shocking matches in WWE history. Most fans still haven’t forgotten how the arena went cold after The Deadman took the pinfall. It was an unpleasant memory for most fans, but not for the Undertaker himself, simply because he doesn’t remember doing that match at all. On his Six Feet Under podcast recently, The Phenom said this was the best part about getting a concussion that night:

“Probably the best part is that I don’t really remember it.” (H/T NYFights.com)

It happened early in the match, but Undertaker isn’t sure about the exact moment.

His WrestleMania Streak Was As Important As The Main Event At Times

More often than not, the most important match of the year is the WrestleMania main event. It’s the biggest show of the year, featuring the biggest stars. When The Streak was still alive, it was sometimes treated in the same way as the WrestleMania main event. It’s not too hard to believe because fans had built that anticipation. The thought of The Streak potentially ending at a WrestleMania was intriguing, and Undertaker said at times, “it was as important as whatever the main event was.”

Edge Refused To End The Streak

Following his loss to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30, people backstage were furious. Many of them had helped make The Streak, after all.

And Lesnar wasn’t even the first choice to pin Undertaker at WrestleMania. Wrestlers like Vladimir Kozlov and Edge were pitched to end his streak, but things never came to fruition. In Edge’s case, the Rated R Superstar himself refused to do it.
