Fan Attacks Top AEW Star After Dynamite
via IMAGN Image Services

The June 18 episode of AEW Dynamite was a big one, as Tony Khan's promotion went south of the border for AEW Grand Slam: Mexico. Held in Mexico City's Arena Mexico, the packed show was filled with high-caliber matches, but one wrestler made the crowd so angry that a fan later tried to attack them. Without even revealing who it is, your first guess is probably that it was one of wrestling's best heels, MJF. If that's who you thought, you'd be correct.

A Fan Attempted To Attack MJF At The Hotel After AEW Grand Slam: Mexico

At AEW Grand Slam: Mexico, MJF took on the legendary luchador, Mistico. MJF did his usual antics, trying to rile up the fans. In a match that ended in a DQ, with the Hurt Syndicate and several luchadors getting involved, MJF ripped off Mistico's mask and taunted the crowd with it. Although it was, of course, part of the show, one fan was very upset by the perceived lack of disrespect.

According to Fightful Select:

"Sources in AEW claimed that a fan went after MJF at the hotel after the show. MJF was said to have been okay and laughed the situation off and was proud of it."

MJF Has A History Of Fan Altercations

Talk to a wrestler from the 1980s and they'll tell you many stories about fans who followed them back to the hotel and tried to fight them. Back then, many fans believed what they saw. Today, with the internet having all but killed kayfabe, wrestlers being attacked by fans is rare, because the vast majority of the audience knows we are watching characters put on a show.

MJF is different, though. He very rarely breaks character and lives in kayfabe. No heel in wrestling can get a crowd to hate him like MJF. A few years ago, a fan got so angry that they even tried to jump into the ring to take on MJF, only for security to quickly take them down.

Although fans attacking wrestlers should never be condoned, you know MJF had to love that, yet again, he did his job so well that a fan bought every bit of it.
