Trick Williams has made an immediate impact since arriving on WWE SmackDown, and that includes entering the Undisputed WWE Championship picture. He beat Matt Cardona on last night's episode to book his place in a fatal-four-way match at Saturday Night's Main Event (January 24th).
The former NXT Champion will face Randy Orton, Damian Priest and Sami Zayn in a number one contender's four-way. If he were to win he'd get the opportunity to challenge new champion Drew McIntyre at some stage.
Williams immediately feels like a major player, and that's evidenced by the massive crowd reaction he's received on each of his appearances since joining SmackDown. That was the case last night in London, England, as the pop he was greeted with when making his entrance was arguably the loudest of the night.
Fans loudly responded to his entrance theme with "Whoop that Trick" chants as the 31-year-old prepared to face Cardona. He is already over just weeks into his main roster career, but some feel WWE faces a decision as a result.
Williams is a heel and has been for over a year while on NXT, but this hasn't stopped fans from getting behind him. The consensus among those who saw his reaction on SmackDown is that WWE might have to turn him babyface soon.

One fan responded to his entrance on X: "They won’t be able to keep him heel for long lol."
Another added, "Heel Trick Williams is not going to last very long. He's going to be a face in short order."
One is bemused by WWE continuing with a heel Williams: "Why are they trying to force Trick Williams to being a heel he’s the most over wrestler on SmackDown I knew they were gonna do this when they brung him out to confront Randy Orton who’s the biggest babyface on the show behind Cody Rhodes."
Another echoed this: "There's no way you guys are going to make Trick Williams a heel out the gate. This dude looks, acts, and works the crowd like a superstar."
Williams' star power is undeniable, and he could be fast-tracked into the world title picture on a permanent basis despite having just arrived on the main roster. He even had fans' support after attacking a babyface Zayn to close last night's SmackDown.
Although Williams has just arrived on SmackDown, it's clear he is already one of the most popular stars on the brand. Sometimes NXT talent struggle at first to resonate with the audience, but that hasn't been the case with Trick.
He has looked the real deal, especially in promo segments when he went toe-to-toe with Randy Orton last week. He is already in contention to challenge for McIntyre's WWE Championship, and there's no reason the company shouldn't give him a major push.
Fans clearly want to see him in the main event scene, and WWE could do with fresh faces competing against the likes of McIntyre and Cody Rhodes. He wouldn't need to win the titl,e but a win at Saturday Night's Main Event and chasing the gold before WrestleMania 42 could go a long way in propelling him into one of the company's future poster boys.
