The WWE product has drastically improved in the Triple H era. Weekly programming might not be perfect, but it's far more palatable, with consistent, engaging storylines that don't insult viewers' intelligence.
It's important to remember what rejuvenated the company—the exile of Vince McMahon. For years, his creative incompetence hindered any chance of wrestling returning to mainstream relevance. In 2022, Janel Grant sued Vince McMahon for sex trafficking and other heinous crimes, which led to the TKO board ousting him from his position. Rumors have swirled around the disgraced 79-year-old forming a new wrestling/entertainment company, with one former WWE United States champion welcoming the idea of working under his former boss.
During a recent interview with Going Ringside's Scott Johnson, Matt Riddle talked about the possibility of reuniting with Vince McMahon in this hypothetical new promotion. "Oh, I'm interested in anybody, bro," Riddle said. "I'm an independent contractor; I can actually work anywhere and wherever I want, for how much money I want."
Any chance of Riddle signing a deal with a major American company anytime soon likely vanished with those remarks. McMahon is persona non grata right now in the industry, for a good reason. Riddle teasing him that he's open to working with him is just a terrible look for a guy who has been at the center of numerous of his own controversies.
Riddle is doing well on the independent circuit and is the current Major League Wrestling Champion. He's still a name in the business, but how many ill-advised comments can he make before even smaller bookers don't want to deal with him?
