Former WWE superstar Braun Strowman may be ready to say goodbye to the wrestling industry for good if he can land the movie role of a lifetime -- at least the most iconic role of his lifetime.. The 40-year-old ex-WWE monster revealed in a recent interview with Collider, that he has been in discussions to portray iconic Halloween monster Jason Voorhees in an upcoming Friday the 13th project.
“There may be some talks about it with people that I know and my agency,” Strowman said. “If we could ever get everybody to get back on the same page and allow the things to work, I might be the next Voorhees.”
The hope is that Strowman didn't jinx his opportunity to play the role, but was more manifesting it into reality. However, it sounds like the relaunch is more in the preliminary discussions phase. There may be a ways to go, since trademarks and other factors may mean the project is never greenlit.
Considering his WWE background and massive frame, Strowman seems like a natural fit to play the silent, machete-wielding slasher. He even went as far as saying he would gladly sacrifice his trademark beard if it meant stepping into the iconic role. “Oh, Friday the 13th. Jason, dude… I would gladly shave this beard off to play that character.”
Strowman playing the role would also bring in WWE and wrestling fans to watch a new Friday the 13th film.
Strowman also opened up about where he currently stands with his wrestling career, admitting that he considers himself “semi-retired.” He explained that his focus is shifting toward acting rather than competing in the squared circle and he's trying his hand at something else.
“Even like in our business too, like the wrestling side of things... I say 'our business,' I’m semi-retired from wrestling now too because I want to be an actor,” Strowman revealed.
While he's onto the next chapter, he still had nice things to say about the business. “I always have so much admiration for these young and up-and-coming talents that are looking for a shoe in… I was that kid at one point.”
Whether or not Strowman officially dons Jason Voorhees’ hockey mask, his transition into acting appears to be underway. If the deal comes together, it could be the breakout role that establishes him in Hollywood, even if no one actually ever sees his face in the movie.
