Dominik Mysterio has brutally responded to CM Punk's claim that his partnership with Rhea Ripley exposed the business more than WWE's new Unreal show.
Punk had made comments regarding Dominik's on-screen relationship with Ripley by suggesting that it wasn't believable. This didn't go down well with the Intercontinental Champion, who took aim at the Best in the World by highlighting his struggles in the UFC.
Punk's assessment of Dominik and Ripley's pairing occurred during a press tour for WWE's new Netflix show, WWE: Unreal. It pulls back the curtain on how matches and storylines are created and has received some criticism due to the breaking of kayfabe.
The 46-year-old said during an interview with Emmanuel "E-Man" Noisette:
"One time, they wanted [Rhea Ripley] to be in a relationship with Dominik Mysterio. Who is going to believe that? ‘Hey everybody, here is a Greek goddess and she is with this fucking nerd.’ Come on. That exposes the business more than anything we’re going to do on Netflix. Who is going to believe that shit? Dominik Mysterio, little bitch."
Dominik took umbrage with those comments and ridiculed Punk's UFC career, noting that he had not won any of his fights. He told Shakiel Mahjouri of Shak Wrestling:
"Nothing kills the business more than someone thinking they are actually good enough to go fight in the UFC and get their a-- beat not once but twice. If you want to talk about ‘nothing kills the business more,’ just go watch CM Punk’s fights in the UFC. You tell me what kills the business more. Let me call my friend Mickey Gall real quick and see what he thinks."
Mickey Gall defeated Punk on the WWE star's UFC debut back in September 2016 via a quick rear-naked choke submission. He then also lost to Mike Jackson, although the decision was overturned into a no-contest after Jackson tested positive for marijuana.
Dana White advised the Second City Saint to give up an MMA career shortly after that fight, and he stopped competing in the octagon. He returned to pro wrestling with AEW in 2021 before arriving back in the WWE in November 2023 after nine years away.
This isn't the first time Dominik and Punk have gone back and forth as they have constantly thrown digs at one another. That was the case earlier this month when WWE celebrated the Judgment Day star's 20-year association with the company.
Punk was among those asked about the impact the 28-year-old has made during his time in WWE. He couldn't help but make a sarcastic comment about his "leadership":
"Any advice Dominik has given me, boy. Dominik is a leader, and I feel he leads by example. It’s not often that he will volunteer his nuggets of wisdom. I more like to just watch how he moves, you know. Like, for instance, you know, he wears the chest thing in the shirt when he wrestles."
Dirty Dom was the first opponent Punk faced after returning to WWE, defeating him at Madison Square Garden on his return tour in December 2023. They have never squared off on TV, although their constant put-downs of one another suggest a potential rivalry could be on the cards.
Punk thought he'd become World Heavyweight Champion on night one of SummerSlam when he beat Gunther. That was until his longtime rival made a shock return and cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to steal the world title.
Dominik is in action on night two (August 3) and defends his Intercontinental Championship against AJ Styles. The Phenomenal One has hinted that this is likely his last match at the PLE.
