  • Goldberg will challenge Gunther for a World Title shot at Saturday Night's Main Event.
  • The match is set for July 12, confirmed by WWE shortly after Goldberg's return.
  • Expect a build-up of the rivalry with Gunther possibly targeting Goldberg, making the match personal.

Goldberg has officially returned to WWE and is looking for one more World Title win. During Monday Night Raw, the WWE Hall of Famer interrupted Gunther's championship celebration, and "put a little note" on the festivities. Saying Gunther started something a few months ago in Atlanta, Georgia, Goldberg was going to finish things in Atlanta, Georgia. He challenged Gunther for Saturday Night's Main Event.

The match will be personal, because it's about family and WWE has billed it as Goldberg's Last Ride.

Goldberg Getting A World Title Shot

WWE made it official shortly afterward that on July 12, Goldberg would face Gunther in the main event of the show. Triple H tweeted, "No better place for @Goldberg to get back in the ring than Atlanta… #SNME get ready…" He also shared a video of himself talking to Goldberg backstage in October of 2024, where he said, "We’ll talk more very soon…": and hinted at that time there would be at least one more match for the former WWE Champion.

Rumors are that Goldberg will have a run all the way up to the event in July. That means fans should expect future appearances and that Gunther will likely target Goldberg to build up the rivalry before these two meet in the ring. As for how nasty this will get, time will tell.

Gunther made fun of Goldberg's family back in October, so this could get personal.

Biggest Saturday Night's Main Event Yet?

This will be the show's main event and could wind up being the biggest Saturday Night's Main Event WWE puts on. They wouldn't go so far as to say this was Goldberg's retirement match, but if he doesn't win the championship, fans should likely assume this will be his last one. If he does win the title, the WWE Universe can expect at least one more match so that Goldberg can drop the championship to someone else before he hangs up his boots for good.

Goldberg appeared to be in good shape, but he also seemed to be potentially nursing a slight limp. How that will affect this match or the way it's booked will be fascinating to see.
