Gunther breaks silence with a four-word message after becoming WWE King of the Ring
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Despite losing his Intercontinental title to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania XL, Gunther hasn’t lost even a tiny bit of momentum. He defeated Randy Orton in the final of the King of the Ring tournament, becoming the new King of the Ring. After his emphatic victory over The Legend Killer, he broke his silence on social media.

The Ring General took to X and shared a picture of himself with a crown, announcing himself as the King of the Ring to the WWE Universe. Ahead of his match against Randy Orton, he stated that although Orton was one of the greatest superstars to step foot in WWE, he was confident about beating him. Gunther’s victory was rather controversial, as many fans noticed that his opponent’s shoulders were up during the three-count.

His road to becoming the King of the Ring wasn’t easy at all, as he first had to square off against Sheamus. It certainly wasn’t the third time a charm for The Celtic Warrior, as he tapped out to Gunther’s submission hold. The New Day’s Kofi Kingston was looking to take revenge on the 36-year-old star for injuring his friend Xavier Woods. However, that didn’t turn out well for him, as he too tapped out in the quarterfinals.

He met Jey Uso in the semifinals of the tournament, and although the audience’s support was against him, he still defeated The Yeet Master. After winning the finals, The Ring General earned an opportunity to fight for the World Heavyweight title at SummerSlam. The only question that remains is whether Damian Priest will remain the champion by August 3rd or not.

Sami Zayn was proud of dethroning Gunther at WrestleMania XL

Sami Zayn finally became the guy who beat Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania XL. As such, he expressed his honest opinions in an interview about the match he had against The Ring General.

While speaking to Arab News, the 39-year-old star expressed pride in his win over Gunther, believing it would have lasting significance. He also praised his adversary by calling him the best Intercontinental Champion of all time. Zayn ranked this accomplishment as one of the hardest things to achieve right now.

I think just being in the ring with GUNTHER — who obviously has shown that he’s one of our top superstars now and, you know, probably the best Intercontinental Champion we’ve ever had — to beat him at the biggest show of the year, I mean, I think it’s very, very memorable.
