WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther has officially signed a new contract with WWE, and the deal includes a major upgrade in travel accommodations. Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show , Gunther revealed that a personal tour bus—typically reserved for top stars like Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes—was part of the agreement.
Gunther shares that he initially wasn't interested in joining WWE and Triple H convinced him to make the move:"When there's an opportunity and everybody jumps at it at the same time... it gives me a weird feeling. I was like, man, maybe I sit this out first and see how it goes.… pic.twitter.com/f2Ifjon84T— Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) April 9, 2025
"I signed a new [WWE] contract, and [a tour bus] was part of it. I asked for that," Gunther told Helwani. "What you don't ask for, you don't get."
The fact that WWE granted his request for a tour bus seems to underscore how WWE sees Gunther. Their current World Champion is high up on the totem pole of talent that has certain accommodations worked into their deals. His historic 666-day reign as Intercontinental Champion, the longest in WWE history, went a long way to making him a legitimate star. Not long after, he was given the World Title, and with that top-tier status comes top-tier amenities.
Yet, despite his accomplishments, he has a ways to go to be the company's top guy. He admitted it doesn't bother him that he's not main-eventing WrestleMania. He says there is a lot of time to achieve that goal.
Things have dramatically changed for Gunther over the years. It wasn't that long ago he almost didn't come to WWE as he was happy working overseas and being close to his home in Austria. Gunther also opened up about his early reluctance to sign with WWE, sharing that it was Triple H who ultimately convinced him to join.
"When there's an opportunity and everybody jumps at it at the same time... it gives me a weird feeling. I was like, man, maybe I sit this out first and see how it goes," he said. "It worked out in the end, but Hunter was always the guy that said... 'Hey man, I see a big future here for you, and if you want to do it, then I'm on board.'" He called himself a Triple H guy.
He also reflected on working under former WWE chairman Vince McMahon, saying he wasn't a fan of the experience because it was hard to see a clear direction, and he didn't know what was being asked of him under that regime. “It was a strange experience. The direction was very confusing, and it was hard to figure out what was expected of me,” Gunther admitted. “I got lucky with the timing. I’m a Hunter guy.”
