It's only been a month since WrestleMania 41, and the foundation of the next WrestleMania has already been shaken. It was revealed this week that the location of WrestleMania 42 is changing. Next Year's Show Of Shows will no longer go down in New Orleans, and while it hasn't been confirmed yet, the belief is WrestleMania will be headed back to Las Vegas for the second year in a row.
Fans are a little taken aback at the sudden change of location, and it seems certain WWE employees might share that sentiment. That's according to an update shared by the Wrestling Observer (via WrestlePurists). Apparently, there was talk backstage among employees that a change of this magnitude would not have happened with Vince McMahon in charge.
According to WON, employees noted that once something was set in stone and announced to fans, especially something as big as the date and location of WrestleMania, nothing would have changed that under McMahon. Outside of something like the pandemic, of course, which forced McMahon to hold a two-night WrestleMania in front of no fans at the Performance Center.
Regarding moving WrestleMania 42 to Las Vegas, one conversation among WWE employees and some talents yesterday was how a move of this nature never would have happened under the Vince McMahon regime as once something was set in stone and publicly announced, it was never, ever… pic.twitter.com/sV7EILekOG— WrestlePurists (@WrestlePurists) May 23, 2025
Fans are divided over the comments. Some are in agreement, reminded that the new, Triple H-led WWE might not be for them, and this sudden change of WrestleMania location is a reminder of that. "Say what you will about Vince, but as time goes on, more and more people will miss him and realize he was the life and soul of WWE," one fan wrote in reply to the tweet above. "One thing about Vince was he stood his ground, whether that was about operations or creative," another replied.
Not everyone thinks that just because McMahon stuck to his guns, WWE is now worse off without him. The most liked reply to the post so far is one labeling McMahon "An out-of-touch booker and needed to go". Another points out that technically, this is all happening because of McMahon. That the former chairman selfishly sold the company when he knew his time was running out, and it's TKO, the company he sold it to, that would have made this decision, not Triple H.
New Orleans will host a WrestleMania down the line, and for now, it has been given 2026's Money in the Bank as a make-good. If the rumors that WWE pulled the plug and potentially switched to Las Vegas because of how much money this year's WrestleMania made are true, though, WWE may have broken its relationship with the city of New Orleans beyond repair.
