How WWE Can Still Build Cody Rhodes Vs. John Cena (Without John Cena)

The Road To WrestleMania 41 is reaching its final stops, and WWE is heating up its biggest storylines heading into the Grandest Stage Of Them All. John Cena and Cody Rhodes tore the house down in an epic promo battle on the latest episode of WWE Raw, which saw Cody hitting Cena with a Cross Rhodes. However, when looking at Cena's schedule, it's unlikely he'll appear on WWE TV again before the big event.

John Cena might not be scheduled for any more WWE appearances ahead of WrestleMania 41, but that doesn’t mean the company can't continue to build the match. WWE has always been great at building feuds with limited appearances, and when the story is this big, Cena's presence can loom large without him even stepping foot in an arena.

The Rock Makes An Appearance

The Next Confrontation Between Cody Rhodes And The Final Boss

One of the biggest complaints WWE fans have had following John Cena's epic heel turn at Elimination Chamber is The Rock's lack of involvement in the Rhodes-Cena storyline. Up until their latest promo battle, The Final Boss wasn't even referenced.

The perfect way to keep the momentum going is to have The Rock show up to confront Cody Rhodes. Their issues are far from over, since this feels like the next step in their own personal feud, with Cena having sold his soul to The Rock. A Travis Scott appearance might also be in store, but he wouldn't have the same impact as The Final Boss.

Cody Rhodes Is Sent A Gift

The Spinner Title Makes Its Way Back To Taunt The WWE Champion

In a moment tailor-made for Monday Night Raw without John Cena present, Cody Rhodes could receive an unexpected gift from him: the old Spinner WWE Championship. No note. No explanation. Just the symbol of Cena’s reign on top, sitting in the current WWE Champion’s domain.

Cena has already referenced the divisive design in one of his promos, and it would be the ultimate heel move on his end. This symbolic gesture sends a powerful message: Cena will be the final WWE Champion, and he will display it using the controversial title.

John Cena, Live Via Satellite

WWE's Video Packages Are Always Top Tier

John Cena doesn’t have to appear in person to make a massive impact. A pre-taped promo or a live satellite interview in classic Cena fashion could stir the pot. It could also add layers to his heel turn, as he doesn't care about appearing for wrestling fans, and that Hollywood is his priority.

WWE can then run side-by-side video packages comparing Cena’s rise in the Ruthless Aggression era with Cody’s long road back to WWE. Legends weigh in. History is revisited. The company always delivers incredible video packages with high production values that elevate storylines.

Cody Rhodes Gets Called Out By A Wrestler

Austin Theory Can Use His Win Over Cena To Get Under Cody's Skin

John Cena might not be getting physical before WrestleMania 41, but that doesn't mean Cody Rhodes can't step into the ring to put someone in their place. Enter Austin Theory. The former WWE Tag Team Champion can interrupt a Cody promo and chastise the Undisputed WWE Champion alongside Grayson Waller. He can point out how he has a win over John Cena at WrestleMania, and that Cody Rhodes won't be able to do what he did.

The duo is unlikely to have a significant role at WrestleMania 41, so serving as a quick warm-up for a fired-up Cody could work well to keep his momentum going. Theory would ultimately get squashed in a short match in order to prevent any potential Cody injury.
