Wrestling fans have been chanting "Who's Next?!" for close to three decades now, but it's finally time to say "Who's Last?!" as Goldberg has shared some news regarding his retirement match. While things can always change in the wrestling landscape, it appears that Goldberg will wrestle his final bout in the summer of 2025.
It's been common knowledge for quite some time now that WWE Hall Of Famer Goldberg wanted one last match to put a pretty bow on his wrestling career. The 58-year-old wrestling legend recently shared an update on when this might happen. Speaking on his CarCast podcast, he revealed that the match is being planned for Summer 2025.
Like I said, I’ve got a match in — sometime this summer. I don’t know exactly when it is. But I know it’s coming up and I know at 58 years old, I gotta be in my underwear in front of everybody and I hold a very high standard of myself, and so, I need to get to work yesterday. But, the long-term benefit and the benefit for me in the ring will be much more if I just calm my a-- down.
Goldberg also shared that he has been receiving stem cell treatment in order to prepare for his final WWE match:
I feel like a trillion bucks. Whether it's from the stuff that I altered my life prior or the stem cell treatment after a day. I feel like a million bucks, comparatively. You have to be logical, but it's like you're a racehorse again, and you're being held in a stall, and you can't come out for a period of time.
The last time WWE fans saw Goldberg was at the 2024 Bad Blood event. He was at ringside with his family when Gunther started berating him on the mic, calling him a "one-trick pony" and going after his son, Gage. Goldberg jumped the barricade and attempted to enter the ring, but security stopped him.
WWE often likes to tease matches, having an ace in their back pocket that they can pull out at the opportune time. Gunther could be a great final opponent for Goldberg, as the seeds have already been planted.
While a veteran could be paired with Goldberg, there are a number of rising stars that would greatly benefit from being a part of his final match. Wrestlers like Jacob Fatu and Bronson Reed are solid options, but if it's not going to be Gunther, Bron Breakker would be the ideal choice given his power style, and Goldberg's history with his family - his uncle Scott Steiner went to war with Goldberg in WCW. Time will tell how WWE books his retirement match, which should be a big deal given Goldberg's enduring popularity. With the date being planned for Summer 2025, it's fair to assume that this will go down at SummerSlam.
