'I Don't See It': WWE Fans Aren't Sold On Roman Reigns' Role In The Upcoming Street Fighter Movie

That's according to Deadline, which claimed today sources have revealed Reigns and his celebrity lookalike Jason Momoa are in talks to join the cast of Legendary's live-action Street Fighter movie. While the initial report only notes that Reigns is in talks to be in the movie, a follow-up courtesy of Jeff Sneider has added the role Reigns is being tapped to play - legendary Street Fighter character, Akuma.

For those unfamiliar with Akuma, the character has been part of Street Fighter rosters for decades, making his debut in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo in 1994. Akuma is a Japanese character with a darker complexion and long hair, so two out of three for Reigns. While you can see how Reigns might be made up to resemble Akuma in a live-action movie, wrestling and Street Fighter fans aren't convinced Legendary has nailed the casting on this one.

Fans Are Divided About Whether Roman Reigns Is Right For The Role

While one fan appears to be on board with the other rumors doing the rounds about the Street Fighter movie, they've labeled Reigns as Akuma "really, really bad casting". Another has claimed they "don't see it", also questioning whether Momoa would make a good Zangief. There doesn't appear to be a firm answer on who the Minecraft Movie star will be playing, but Zangief is the leading theory, with Blanca a close second.

Not everyone is as down on Reigns as Akuma. Others have said they can see it, while one fan is already hoping for a Reigns-inspired Akuma skin in whatever the latest Street Fighter game is once the movie gets here, presumably Street Fighter 7, since the film is still a long way off. A few fans have also pointed out that Reigns playing a Japanese character will be an unexpected homage to Yokozuna, a member of Reigns' Samoan family tree who famously played a Japanese sumo wrestler in WWE.

We appear to be in a new era of WWE movie stars. Reigns looks like he will be a part of the Street Fighter movie, while Liv Morgan will be back soon after wrapping filming on her first movie.
