'I had a street hot dog': Dominik Mysterio declined family dinner invitation after battling father at WrestleMania 39
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

When Dominik Mysterio turned heel by attacking his father, Rey Mysterio , and Edge at the Clash at the Castle in 2022, fans witnessed his new personality. He aligned himself with The Judgment Day and continued to torment the Lucha legend, forcing him to wrestle at WrestleMania 39. The 27-year-old star revealed in an interview what happened after his loss to Rey.

During an interview on Sports Illustrated, Dominik Mysterio talked about an organized family dinner after his WrestleMania match. “Dirty” Dom stated that even though he had done some despicable things to his entire family, they still invited him for a celebratory dinner. However, he cruelly declined the invitation and instead ate a street hot dog and spent the night at the hotel.

The duo of Rhea Ripley and Dom caused chaos in Rey Mysterio‘s life, with the latter even labeling him a deadbeat father. Ahead of WrestleMania 39, things went out of hand when the former North American Champion misbehaved with his mother. The Lucha legend attacked his son for the very first time, setting up the match between them at the Show of Shows.

Rey got his revenge when he defeated Dominik, finally emerging victorious and celebrating with his family in the ring. Not only that, a year later, the duo squared off again, this time in a tag team match at WrestleMania XL. The Hall of Famer once again got the better of his son with a little help from NFL stars Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson.

Rey Mysterio revealed that he would willingly put his mask on a line against Dominik Mysterio for a match

With retirement in mind, the 49-year-old Hall of Famer expressed his desire to have one more match with his son, Dominik Mysterio. He revealed in an interview that he still wanted his son to eventually inherit his mask.

During an interview on CBS Sports, Rey Mysterio revealed that it didn’t necessarily have to be a retirement match, but he would like to raise the stakes. The former WWE Champion stated that he was willing to put the thing that mattered the most to him, which was his mask against “Dirty” Dom.

The perfect scenario is that Dom would be the right person. And not necessarily to retire me but put what matters most to me on the line and that’s my mask. It’s something I’d be willing to do. Rey Mysterio via the CBS Sports

Many fans also seemed excited by the idea and expected the elder Mysterio to truly pass the torch on to his son. In the two WrestleMania matches between them, Rey got the better of Dom both times. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top this time if it does happen in the future.
