Women’s World Champion IYO SKY is receiving high internal praise as a breakout star in WWE.
In the new issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer shared that “one person high up in decision making” in WWE told him that SKY has been considered a breakaway star this year for not only her work in the ring but her promos as well. Everyone in the women’s division loves working with SKY and has no problem with letting her shine:
One person high up in decision making noted to us that Sky has been considered breakaway star this year, combining the fire and voice inflections that made Asuka a strong promo without speaking English and ‘her ridiculously great workrate, and everyone loves working with her, so no one has a problem making her shine, letting her shine, and designing a match for her to shine.’
SKY, Bianca Belair, and Rhea Ripley stole the show at WrestleMania 41 night two last month — with their triple threat match even earning praise from “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. SKY pinned Belair to win the match and retain the Women’s World Championship.
Already regarded among the best wrestlers in the world at the time, SKY has been with WWE since 2018. She’s had two Women’s Championship reigns on the main roster in addition to holding the Women’s Tag Team titles multiple times.
SKY does not have a match scheduled for Backlash this weekend, but she’ll team up with Ripley on Raw next Monday (May 12) against Roxanne Perez & Giulia.
